Lynne Featherstone on twitter - words fail me

Just saw this twitter exchange between LF and Nimco Ali after Nimco thanks JKR.
I stand up for women Nimco - it’s just a kinder and more generous version than yourself. Perhaps more understanding and compassion might help you. Always willing to discuss. The objective is equality - which used to matter to you.

The woman is a disgrace, the smug arrogance of her.

Ugh. Nimco holds the line and gets berated for it. Great to see more pushback to the #BeKind thing (No, thank you)
As an aside, thanks to this thread I have come across a new word - crybully. THAT'S going in my lexicon. Hah.

FlibbertyGiblets · 14/03/2022 00:10

Oh yes, the Boy Who Disappeared period.

Awkwardy · 14/03/2022 00:19

Belcher has pushed a lot of senior LDs into uncomfortable positions.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 14/03/2022 00:39

I'm not so sure about the Scottish leader.

I think he might know what a woman is and is toeing the line for now.

They lost Jo Swinson after she said some absolute bat shit stuff. Apart from saying she as going to be prime minister. she said TWAW too.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 14/03/2022 00:47

In a straw poll about women who championed women, I'm sure more people would recognise Nimco than would know Lynne.

Melroses · 14/03/2022 01:04

I couldn't believe this either.

Does she think she owns Nimco Ali or something? Nimco is allowed to like JKR 🤷‍♀️

On some level, quite possibly yes. This kind of attitude is nothing Nimco Ali hasn't encountered before.

Belcher must be very persuasive in person. Another of those who wields a lot of behind the scenes power and enables other, obviously unsavoury, campaigners a place at the table.
ResisterRex · 14/03/2022 06:14

The:

Came right after it was clear they weren't going to agree and Nimco tried to call a dignified end to it, as well(!).

Nimco is (was?) advisor to Priti Patel on VAWG. And is very good friends with Carrie so the rumour goes.

So this is a good sign, especially after the news a few months ago about Stonewall having a direct line into no10. PP is not no10 but even so.

PearPickingPorky · 14/03/2022 06:19

I'd love Featherstone to explain the Equality Act.

ScreamingMeMe · 14/03/2022 06:54

@partystress

I’ve just replied, yet again, to another plea for money from the LDs, telling them I won’t be donating while they’re throwing women’s rights under the bus.

I used to campaign for them. Leafleted for Layla Moran. Feel embarrassed now to have helped her on her way.

Never get a response from either the national or local party.

I was signed up to emails from the Lib Dems for a while, as I was seriously considering them as an alternative to voting Labour. Then I got tha email from Lynn telling me I wasn't a proper feminist because I don't believe TWAW. And that was the end of that chapter.
ScreamingMeMe · 14/03/2022 06:56

This one. Message received and understood.

Slightly beside the point, but why am I not surprised that someone who addresses others in such a patronising way is also one of those pompous twits who misuses reflexive pronouns because they think that it sounds clever?

donquixotedelamancha · 14/03/2022 07:28

LF is famously dumb.

She once called 999 because her boiler was on the blink.

She got a joke email about a fake date rape drug and wrote to the minister about it. When he pointed out it didn't exist she complained the home office didn't take spam seriously enough and should 'hunt down' the person who sent her the email.

She's never had a proper job, working for mummy and daddy then as a career politician. She means well but has little clue about real people.

I'll take Nimco's opinion over her's every day of the week.

It's mangled grammar.

'it's just a kinder and more generous version than yours' would be the logical construction. But here we are.

DomesticatedZombie · 14/03/2022 09:08

Wait, they took on Aimee Challenor after Challenor Snr was convicted?! Confused

Hm, that might be inaccessible.

ATeamAmy · 14/03/2022 09:18

LF used to be my MP. DH and I had an exchange with her after, for the one and time, we voted for her/LibDem, and they promptly jumped into bed with the Tories. She was pretty nasty when we expressed our dismay about that.

She's very typical of the type who are deeply unpleasant, very privileged and want people to know their place, but dresses this up with liberal credentials. You can always tell, because in their mind, their deigning to support you (Lady Bountiful as a pp said), is the most valuable thing they have brought to the liberal agenda, and they put a lot more value on that than the actual people they purport to stand up for. And this is why, for the likes of LF, nothing more than fawning gratitude for the LFs of this world will do. It's an, "I lowered myself to stand up for you, now you owe me absolute loyalty and respect, and woe betide you have an opinion of your own" type attitude. You only hold this attitude if you didn't really care for the people you are now turning on, but were just using them to make yourself look good. And they react like LF has - pure anger from the bully pulpit and inserting themselves into a conversation nobody was having with them. All because they think every woman of colour owes them personally. They try to elevate themselves above the people who do actually suffer from prejudice, marginalisation etc, to "teach" them where they have gone wrong, to belittle their experiences and contributions, and to re-establish themselves at the top of the tree, where they always intended to stay, because that's the ultimate game. The LFs stay at the top, the NAs get her support, and yes, maybe a bit of relief, but they must know their place and show sufficient gratitude.

I see a parallel between this exchange between Nimko Ali and Lynne Featherstone and the one between Kemi Badenoch and Caroline Noakes the other week.

DomesticatedZombie · 14/03/2022 09:22

I thought exactly the same, ATeam. Reminded me precisely of that exchange, Nokes speaking from on high to her presumed lower-status skivvy.

DomesticatedZombie · 14/03/2022 09:22

Both of these exchanges I found breathtakingly fucking rude and arrogant.

Imnobody4 · 14/03/2022 09:32

You've nailed it ATeam.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/03/2022 10:43

Wait, they took on Aimee Challenor after Challenor Snr was convicted?!

They did, yes. After the Greens safeguarding scandal around AC and DC was revealed. They thought, let's welcome Aimee into the bosom of our party.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/03/2022 10:45

I see a parallel between this exchange between Nimko Ali and Lynne Featherstone and the one between Kemi Badenoch and Caroline Noakes the other week.

I found it deeply distasteful that Featherstone mentioned FGM as if Nimco should be grateful to her for supporting her.
