Unbelievable.

Why is no-one in government doing anything?

It also increases my contempt for Yvette Cooper. Children from her area will be sent to this hospital. She should be getting involved on behalf of the children on grounds of safe-guarding, not declaring such things rabbit-holes she does not want to engage with.

Not only can I never vote for Labour whilst Starmer is leader I won't vote for them if he is replaced by Dodds, Cooper, Creasey, Nandy, or any of the other weak senior women. Or indeed the weak men in the shadow cabinet.

It is simple senior Labour folk:

Be able to define women sensibly, clearly and without evasion

Be prepared to defend single sex spaces and tighten laws

Be prepared to introduce tighter safe-guards for children and vulnerable women

Defend Rosie Duffield, give her a public apology and extend to all GC women Labour have let down in recent years

Then and only then will I begin to look at the rest of what you have to say never mind vote for you. I'll only vote for you if I can really believe the above.

I must be one of tens of thousands who feel like this.

Well of course it would be so much cheaper to run the hospital without the inconvenience of separate sex wards / bays.

So from a very senior manager point of view, you save money and get to polish your diversity credentials.

Look how enthusiastically the senior team at Telford ignored concerns about targets for Caesarean sections. And here they go again. Never, never Ignore patient’s safety and their wishes.

What do the CQC have to say about this idea?

NumberTheory · 13/03/2022 18:20

How is the practical impact of what’s being proposed any different from current NHS wide policy?

Pronouns are already supposed to be respected.
Patients of any age can self ID in to an opposite sex ward. And children’s wards are normally mixed sex (even under the NHS’s ”you’re whatever sex you say you are” approach) anyway.

While I think it’s a big problem that many of our institutions seem to be branding themselves as trans “champions” in a way they don’t for any other protected class, I’m unclear whether this is really suggesting anything of any substance.

Chilren with cancer, heart conditions, life limiting injuries, mental health problems and the rest are not there for NHS staff to try out their personal preferences / political issues on. They are there to be treated - with compassion and the best possible medical care. The NHS is on its knees with national scandals about poor medical care in maternity, elderly care, unethical experimental treatment of children with gender questioning beliefs, predatory doctors being struck off with depressing regularity and escalating waiting lists. Yet opportunist adults reckon this is the time to spend precious NHS resources and funding pushing pronouns and queer theory at the sickest of children?

They can all fuck off.

DaisyWaldron · 13/03/2022 19:19

Are children's wards not usually mixed sex anyway? When DD was in hospital, she was in a ward with boys.

I'm wondering if it might actually be preferable to have everything clearly, unambiguously 'mixed sex'.

Current fudge of 'supposedly single sex, but if males fancy being in with the women that's fine' is probably worst of all worlds.

Hopefully if a risk assessment is done the glaring issues will become apparent very quickly.

Children shouldn't need an identity.

They should be full of imagination and play and trying things on for size and having fun so they can figure out who they are.

So, fuck off with "he knew he was trans as a toddler" He should have been able to explore being a robot, dinosaur, and whatever else he fancies.

I'd strike these HCPs off. This shows toal lack of understanding about normal childhood development.

I totally agree with you. I can’t stand the sight of those rainbow lanyards. What a waste of money Angry
bishophaha · 13/03/2022 21:26

I'm confused what is actually being proposed and what 'making pronouns gender fluid' means. Just referring to everyone as 'they'?
'Fluid' normally means changing, not fixed. Most trans people say their gender is fixed and to imply it isn't is transphobic.

A lot of the accommodation is single rooms anyway. Ds1 was in just before Christmas and most most children on his floor were in single rooms, ensuite with a sofa bed for a parent. They didnt seem to have any problem with using male pronouns for him and about him either.

FWIW I think its pretty common for wards for younger children to be mixed. Certainly always used to be.

This is a massive safeguarding issue. Why do we even have DBS checks in schools if this can happen in a hospital?
