"In section four we unpack more precisely the definitions of sex and gender that are and should be used in such data collection exercises, arguing there is no one definition of sex or gender – nor should there be."

In the same sentence about data collection they think not defining terms is the way to go.

Ummm. Do they know what 'data' means?

avoid attempting to offer any overarching standard definition of sex or gender that would be applicable in all circumstances.

Oh so that's why they've been avoiding defining sex, gender, woman, man, male, female, fair, risk, kind, class, harm, definition, words, meaning.... they meant to do it all along!

Linguini · 08/03/2022 19:30

The only people who insist definitions of "sex" and "gender" are unobtainable, vastly too complex to acknowledge, and therefore to be avoided at all costs, are the people claiming that women can have a penis.

To the rest of the world, the words sex and gender are REALLY EASY to explain.

Argh! How am I supposed to know who needs a midwife or a prostate surgeon? Answers on a postcard......!

Of course!

Because that might give females the legal right sometimes to say No!

Which would be really bloody inconvenient to male people.

reducing sex to a binary, biological model that excludes trans and non-binary people

Erm, mate, trans and NB people have a sex. Everyone has a sex. So, that's an inclusive statement.

These people are idiots. Who peer reviewed this crap? Were they drunk?

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 09/03/2022 01:37

I can't believe the rubbish that gets published in peer-reviewed journals. you have to wonder who these people's peers are.

And it's a pretty easy subject. If the person's sex is relevant, eg in health issues, you use sex. If it's waffle about their personalities, astrological signs etc, that's where gender fits in.
