I’ve just seen this map and I think someone is missing. www.cityofwomenlondon.org/

From a bit of googling, Rebecca Solnit is there as a bow to the fact that the concept is hers - she made the City of Women map of New York. Seems fine, recognition for ideas etc.

Tbh I wouldn't try and publish this as it would be a copyright nightmare...?

Scorchedterf · 09/03/2022 23:20

Time to email and Twitter to the culprits . I’ve only joined Twitter so that I can tell these trans activists what I think about them erasing women

PermanentTemporary · 09/03/2022 23:24

Travis Alabanza seems to be at Vauxhall. Replacements could be Kate Hoey... would rather have Florence Eshalomi who's the current MP.

CrossPurposes · 09/03/2022 23:29

TA is at Vauxhall so maybe Stella Rimington the first female head of MI6 could go there?

PhotosAndFrames · 09/03/2022 23:32

I like the idea of Stella Rimington

PermanentTemporary · 09/03/2022 23:33

Ooh yes Stella, good call

PhotosAndFrames · 09/03/2022 23:35

Permanent Temporary

I have no plans to publish this!

Just April Ashley and Christine Burns left.

(Possibly R Solnit)

mumulala · 09/03/2022 23:36

The Queen! The longest serving monarch! Dear lord 🤦🏻‍♀️

CrossPurposes · 09/03/2022 23:45

Socialist and documentarian Jill Craigie was from Fulham where Parsons Green is (that's April Ashley).

PhotosAndFrames · 09/03/2022 23:47

April Ashley is in Parsons Green - which is in the borough of Fulham and Hammersmith. Lolita Roy? Is she on the map already?

(Roy was an Indian social reformer and suffragist who fought for women’s rights in Britain and India. During World War 1 she set up a fund for Indian soldiers and raised a lot of money through auctions and clothing sales. After the war she continued speaking out for women’s rights across the British Empire.)

PermanentTemporary · 09/03/2022 23:48

For Redbridge, currently Christine Burns... Ruth Rendell? Maggie Smith?

CrossPurposes · 09/03/2022 23:48

Ruth Rendell was from South Woodford which is in Redbridge so she could definitely replace Christine Burns.

PhotosAndFrames · 09/03/2022 23:48

I'm torn between Lolita Roy and Jill Craigie

PhotosAndFrames · 09/03/2022 23:49

Thanks PermanentTemporary and CrossPurposes for Ruth Rendell.

crispsarny · 09/03/2022 23:55

What a crock of shit! I was trying to think what to put in the other box for unsubscribe from Haymarket Books as I don’t wish to receive more of their gaslighting, female erasure emails.

I also voted for JKR Star

PermanentTemporary · 09/03/2022 23:56

I think Lolita Roy is a great choice, I've learned something there.

I have no idea why nonbinary people would want to be on a map called City of Women, wouldn't that be a deadly insult that would get any of us receiving DMs or strikeouts?

PhotosAndFrames · 09/03/2022 23:56

I think that's it. Thanks all. Hopefully you may see this soon on social media. (fingers crossed)

CrossPurposes · 10/03/2022 00:03

That was fun!

CindyLouWho1 · 10/03/2022 02:59

When I first heard about this, my first reaction was What is the point of it? All these empty, meaningless gestures that don’t affect any real change, in the name of feminist activism.

PermanentTemporary · 10/03/2022 06:42

In itself I think it's a nice thing. I certainly hadn't heard of quite a few of the women mentioned and it was interesting to read about them.

I hadn't heard of quite a few of them because they weren't particularly interesting or noteworthy. There's a lot virtue signalling going on.

We have the map!!!!

@PhotosAndFrames

Little chorus of “sisters are doing it for themselves” needed i think! Flowers
FemaleAndLearning · 17/03/2022 23:41

Fab!
I was also wondering why non binary women would want to be on the map or did it include non binary males too?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 18/03/2022 00:25

@AlsoNotAGirl

Christine fucking Burns Hmm as well this is farcical
In a bizarre way rapists have a better line in manners. At least they treat their victims, without prejudice, as women.
