Woman's Hour on IWD - what is a woman?

This question has just come up in a discussion between Emma Barnett and Anneliese Dodds, Shadow Women and Equalities minister.

EB is wonderfully direct and unapologetic. AD ties herself in stuttering knots and ends up sounding extremely foolish.

Worth a listen (if you go onto BBC sounds in the next hour I think you'll be able to scroll back to around 10.24ish?) and worth putting in the WH archive of making up ground in fulfilling their remit.

Omg. What a frightened weasel woman

She’s gets paid to too frightened to say what a woman

Spineless

Earn your money woman and do your job. Stop being frightened. Set an an example to women and girls with your power to be heard

Well the context can't be female type biology since "men can get pregnant too". And it can't be appearence based since requiring someone to present as female is transphobic (and stupid - females can look however they look but personally if I was bald, bearded and clearly male I'd struggle to keep a straight face as I said I was female).

I think it must be down to the feelz.

The question is asked at 10.22 and was asked by a listener. EB made it clear that several listeners had asked the same thing.

I love EB.

And it's made the Spectator www.spectator.co.uk/article/labour-flounders-to-define-the-word-woman-

Just listened to this. I think Dodds is ‘on our side’ but fucking terrified (which is fairish I suppose, but I think you’ve got to be braver if you’re a politician).
All that fence sitting must be painful!

I can hear Aretha singing it now: 'you make me feel like a natural context-dependent cervix-haver

I hate BJ and the conservative party with a passion. I want to support Labour.

Bur the Conservative MP in a neighbouring town clearly is expressing concerns about women's rights with regards to.this issue.

I am so frustrated that Labour cannot see that this issue is important to their core electorate.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 09/03/2022 09:30

That's really stupid. I'm not going to pussyfoot around here, it really is. Dodds knows what a woman is and if she was asked to point out the woman in any situation she would have no problem. Or maybe she's so caught in the weird ideology she actually would stand there hand-wringing about context if she was told eg 'the woman will give you £5 million if you go up to her,' who knows?

TheMarzipanDildo I take on board your comment that she might be scared but surely she'd be more scared of looking like a total jaw-dropping plonker who was so dim she didn't even know what a woman was. In some ways, that takes more courage than saying adult human female. Not good, useful courage mind you 😉

There was a fabulous Twitter thread a while back rewording a lot of classic songs.

"When a jizzer loves a bleeder" was my favourite, but there were many others.

MaMaLa321 · 09/03/2022 09:44

apparently Yvette Cooper refused to answer to question on Times Radio this morning, because it would mean 'going down a rabbit hole'.

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/03/2022 09:50

Bloody hell. What the fuck is going on in this world that we need 5 minutes of waffling and still have NO idea what the definition of a woman is! Love EB.

I don't like this world anymore!
