Man gives birth

Another “man” gives birth. Having seen a poster on Mumsnet talking about a book that used very ambiguous language around the sexes, it’s concerning that Ryan didn’t realise Ryan could get pregnant. What’s also very sad is when Ryan says “ Since coming out as Ryan, I've felt this freedom that I never felt as a girl, I do things for me instead of what society deems certain genders should do.”

Sorry about the Mirror link: www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/man-gives-birth-after-not-26406151

"what society deems certain genders should do.”

If he always had a "man" gender I don't see why anything changed then? Society said he could do man things and only when changing his body (not gender, as the body has nothing to do with gender) he felt he could do them?

Could barely read the linked article because of the ads taking up the screen.

Artichokeleaves · 08/03/2022 09:40

How do we stop girls growing up this confused and oppressed by gender stereotypes? Ryan wants the freedom to do and be anything Ryan wants to regardless of their biological reality - which is great - but feels they only have permission to do that if they change words around first.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 08/03/2022 09:44

Ryan comes across as a lovely, reasonable sort. I wish him every happiness in his future. He also, going by the quotes, seems an intelligent young person. So I’m utterly confused as to why he thought he couldn’t get pregnant? Because of the testosterone? Because he’d always ‘known he was a man’? Something else? Whichever it is it’s indicative of an alarming and huge deficit of information, education and counselling that people are being given before going the process of transitioning.

Babdoc · 08/03/2022 09:50

The comments as always are totally gender critical. Nobody is buying this biology denial.

Clymene · 08/03/2022 09:52

Despite being younger and I'd guess less educated than Freddy McConnell, I note that Ryan is well aware that a double mastectomy means no more breastfeeding, unlike Freddy.

I wonder what impact the testosterone during the first trimester will have had on the foetus?

GCAcademic · 08/03/2022 09:52

Going by what some people on here are reporting that their children are being taught in school, we are soon going to be seeing a lot more "men" who didn't realise that they could get pregnant.

OvaHere · 08/03/2022 10:10

Good luck to Ryan not having their freedom affected by having a baby. I'm sure it will be very different to us women who give birth.

Plasmodesmata · 08/03/2022 10:26

There was a thread in AIBU the other day about a science book for children that said something along the lines of "babies are made when the sperm from one adult meets the egg from another adult".
Confusion is only going to get worse as nobody is clear which sort of people can get pregnant.

bishophaha · 08/03/2022 10:27

Sorry but this reporting by the Mirror made me chuckle:

"The drama student, from Rochdale, Manchester, was stunned by the positive test - but decided to immediately pause his hormone treatments in order to give birth to son, Hendrick, two."

He gave birth to a TWO-YEAR-OLD?!

Otherwise, I think it's helpful that the article focuses on his body dysmorphia - because that's what it is, really. I think it's unhelpful to bring some nebulous, indefinably concept of 'gender' into something where it's not liking your body (for whatever reason) that is causing the unhappiness.

It's not too clear but the article mentions that the ex-partner believed himself to be infertile.
Cailleach1 · 08/03/2022 11:43

These sort of stories have been headlines in the newspaper for a few years now. When one of these claims first appeared, I read out to my OH that a man had had a baby! As I read on, it transpired that it was a normal pregnancy in someone of the sex that bears young. Bored OH went back to what they were doing with a sort of 'so, a man didn't have a baby then'.

Misstache · 08/03/2022 11:50

Note how the male partner fucked off and refuses to parent and mum has to step in and support raising the grandchild; which is fine because she’s “read all the books.”

Mum should have said, sorry I’m gender fluid and feeling like a man today so I’m not going to do any of the support work expected of women. But, of course, Ryan can reject gender roles all they want but mum knows that without her taking on the traditional caretaking role baby wouldn’t be supported so she steps in.

RoseslnTheHospital · 08/03/2022 11:52

As usual a transman is in the news for a story relating to their biological sex and reproductive function. Unlike the stories about all the stunning and brave transwomen that make the press, where it's about their personal achievements. Plus ça change.

Halllyup17 · 08/03/2022 12:11

Really? You have a vagina, which is connected to your uterus. You chose to put a penis inside your vagina and are shocked that you're pregnant?! Jeez. Whatever you look like on the outside, or choose to think you are emotionally, doesn't change biology.

Floisme · 08/03/2022 12:16

I really don't have the energy to take this seriously today, other than yes, isn't it interesting how often it's boring old Mum who steps up when she's needed? And how lucky that she'd read some books Grin

😂 😂 😂 This is literally what I thought too.

The article is worrying. The fact they didn't know they could get pregnant, the fact there are now books which are ambiguous about which sex can get pregnant. Bloody hell. I fear for future generations, I really do.

Starlitexpress · 08/03/2022 12:53

Thought he came across as a bit thick, didn't think he could get pregnant on testosterone but then reveals got pregnant before taking it. Hasn't ruled out having more children but had double mastectomy which he's sad about as won't be able to breastfeed. Did no one speak to him before all this medication and surgery?

Seems to be a heterosexual woman who just didn't want to conform to their idea of gender, but hey, at least the nurses got their pronouns correct, mostly.

HairyPotter · 08/03/2022 12:59

Interestingly Ryan’s first thoughts on finding Ryan was pregnant, wasn’t concern about the damage testosterone can do to a developing foetus, but ‘oh no! How will I cope without testosterone for the remainder of the pregnancy?

Enough4me · 08/03/2022 13:04

More correctly, "A man who says he's a woman gives birth".

MissyB1 · 08/03/2022 13:08

Christ I don’t even know where to start. There are some very confused and damaged people around.

Linguini · 08/03/2022 13:13

Err... 🤣
Tiphaine · 08/03/2022 13:52

A man gave birth? Did it look like the pictures here?

ummmm what?
BootsAndRoots · 08/03/2022 13:57

This story is in the Metro too. I think that paper has a real transgender agenda, even though it is owned by the Daily Mail.

BraveBananaBadge · 08/03/2022 14:06

Can never read a headline like that without thinking of Brenda Fricker in So I Married an Axe Murderer:

May Mackenzie: Charlie, hand me the paper.
Charlie Mackenzie: Mom, I find it interesting that you call The Weekly World News "the paper." A paper contains facts.
May Mackenzie: This newspaper contains facts. Look at this. "Pregnant man gives birth." That's a fact
