EDI Training in Australia

very long time lurker here hoping there are some other GC Aussies who can help....

I work for a large organisation in Australia that is looking to bring in an external body to do LGBTectect inclusion training. They are currently looking at the ACON program. ACON is essentially an Aussie version of Stonewall. As a senior leader I have told them I'm not keen on ACON (haven't gone into why) and will suggest alternative providers.

So, has anyone had any experience in this area and can suggest a training provider who is a bit more in the GC camp ?

thanks !

KCOZ is there an Aussie Mumsnet, perhaps that is where you should start. Or try a feminist organisation.

At least thet aren't disguising their credentials with that acronym!

I’ve never found anything Aussie based that comes close to the discussions on Mumsnet !
I have also asked a FB group but thought it worth a shot on here too. Thanks!

I can’t make any recommendations but am watching with interest as I am in Oz too. I’m stunned at how captured this country is.

I know, right ? I just can’t believe how people go along with this.
Fortunately I have a colleague also in a v senior role who is also GC and between us we have made a pact to do our utmost not to let our company fall.

Has anyone done your non-LGBT inclusion training, like disability, feminist, diversity [well, any of the other legal in your country discrimination characteristics] training?

If not, can the money go on those first?
If so, can you invetigate who they refer to?

The question for me would be, is there an issue that needs solving internally or are they just doing it to look good on some list somewhere?

Not Pride in Diversity either I’m afraid.

While there are some references to female issues on their website, particularly around the recent Religious Discrimination bill (around religious doctors being able to say things to un married mothers and to refuse to refer for abortions etc) and they were good on all the missing rights for LGBT (ie religious organisations can still fire LGBT employees - It’s shocking and awful and something I’d be interested in hearing a lot more on)

But every training session we’ve had has been full on gender identity and unreliable vulnerability stats.

Also I don’t think they have given any thought to the importance of free speech. (The idea that the curbs that they want to put in might be used against them later if a more conservative or religious government got in just seems to be going straight over their heads)
