How did the Green Party, set up to campaign for the environment, get taken over by Queer Theorists? It's not a student-age thing -- it's been around (previously called the Ecology Party) since the 1970s when environmentalism first became a major cause. Where are all the grown-ups now?

Hard to believe that in my old age I'm sending money to environmentalists to sue the Green Party for women's rights.

MidCenturyClegs · 06/03/2022 19:11

There was a good deal of fight back against the #genderbollox this weekend at the spring conference. A motion had been tabled to purge men and women who signed the IWD from the Party and it fell. Emma was banned from the conference.

It's spring and summer bulbs need to be planted! My spade will be out on pay day I mean when the Christian far right pay me my millions

MichelleScarn · 06/03/2022 19:19

@midcenturyclegs I'm still waiting on my funding.. keep getting told we've only got these views for all the money, and still NO-ONE has come to me with the dosh yet! 🤬 I'm fummming!

I would say most people in the party working at local level are just getting on with the same issues they always have and with a few exceptions just aren't involved in the discussions at a national level, then there's the be kind to the poor vulnerable trans people viewpoint, plus those who see an opportunity for misogyny whilst appearing right on, along with "if I put my head down and ignore it maybe it'll go away" (looking at you Caroline Lucas and Natalie Bennett amongst others).
DomesticatedZombie · 06/03/2022 19:40

One thing I noticed from attending the conference was just how small the numbers involved are. Voting on motions for policy involved around maybe 4-500 people. Differences of maybe a couple of dozen votes, sometimes.

Anyway, gosh, the garden is looking lovely already.

2Rebecca · 06/03/2022 20:19

It's the same with most political parties and trade unions which is why TRAs have dominated. They get politically active and push for what they want and moan if people oppose them. Lots of trans policies just means lots of TRAs with time on their hands

lets face it all the parties have been ruined, might as well shut em all down and start again from scratch.

the greens dont care about the environment.

tories have lost it completely.
lib dems have just given up.

I’m trying to work our the most effective way I can support change in the Green Party. Join the greens and use democracy votes were possible or add carrots to Emma B’s allotment. The Green Party are not above the law and so I might initially opt for the latter

Saltyquiche · 30/03/2022 09:34

Does anyone know how much support there is in the Green Party for sex based rights?
