I have no words. Nothing that won't get me deleted in case I upset those who will insist this is a Good Thing.

And nothing bad will ever happen
And if it does then it doesn't really matter
And it's worth it if it makes male people happy.

Another grim tale. No mention of the child in this - only the girl's use as a tool for validating the adult's identity. No change there then.

I thought it was a long tradition that Hijra would adopt unwanted children. I've certainly heard of it, often abandoned baby girls, they also take in older children who are seen as transgender or homosexual.

It is a tragedy that babies are abandoned and left to die. Maybe life with a Hijra mother is preferable.

I believe the "being in tact" is likely to be because castration used to be done by non medical people with no pain relief and all too often ended in death from bleeding or infection. I would imagine that even now a professional surgical sex reassignment would be something many could not afford so the choice would be a brutal castration or remaining intact.

This 2017 interview with Sawant makes it tragically clear that this is about performing motherhood for validation. The article suggests Gayatri attends boarding school as a termly boarder: I hope that she still does, frankly; & that she builds lasting friendships & has lots of strong female role models. Because Gayatri is going to grow up into a woman with her own thoughts, feelings & opinions; & people who’ve chosen to become parents for validation don’t deal with any of those things well.

Interviews like this have so much potential to cause Gayatri harm - or rather, answers like this. It’s not that Sawant should never grant an interview again, but given they’re still nursing wounds from things said to them in private by their father, you’d think they’d be exceptionally cautious about the things they say about Gayatri. But no.

Horrifying. A new way for a man to get hold of a child. Put on some lipstick and a sari and say you are a mother. Then you can do whatever you want.
