Good to see so many women turning out in the bitter cold to support Jen Swayne. Great speeches from various people whose names I forgot to write down. I'm told the number today has grown and included women from Sunderland and London. Each time the are more women. Women won't stand for this.

Looks wonderful, well done, all.

'Many women are holding books.' Oh my word, that is brave. Any arrests for unsuitable reading material?

"The penultimate speaker, Alwyn, is speaking in Welsh. She praised"

Alwyn is a man's name. I don't think it was a trans person though...

Pluvia · 24/02/2022 19:10

Yes, many of us took books that Gwent police might not like. I had my copy of Helen Joyce's Trans. Not sure whether I was more disappointed or relieved that the police took no interest. I'd left the dog and some bail money with a friend, just in case.

It is a man's name, but I've seen quite a few names in South Wales where the difference between names like Alwyn and Alwen are not recognised. Most people in the region are not Welsh speakers.

Yes Earth, I think it's a mistake by the reporter. Made me laugh though.

I do enjoy seeing the way that women pull together to support the women who land up at the rough end of this bullshit.

I am sure that Jen was encouraged by this show. More power to them all.

Amazing. We need more of this.

Wonderful to see the various banners - and the singing. The reality of the sisterhood makes me quite weepy... and yes, every day there are more of us saying (ever so politely) oh do fuck orf.

Here's to all of you that went along, and all of you who added to the excellent feminist booklist on Twatter #CanIReadThis: twitter.com/hashtag/canireadthis?src=hash&f=live & twitter.com/MerchedCymru

It was Warrior Woman, Olwyn!
Not Alwyn 😉

Some call these groups 'TERFs' - or Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists - due to their opposition to transgender identities.

Do your research. No one cares in the slightest about transgender identities, it's womens spaces and womens rights that is the issue. If women were left alone, they wouldn't need to protest. They didn't start this, name the bloody aggressors and put the responsibility where it belongs.

It looks amazing, go those women! Am disappointed no copper properly checked their books though.

oldwomanwhoruns · 25/02/2022 04:22

The report on the previous Newport protest, same paper, was really carping and nasty. This report was much more sensible.

I counted 65 of us there - just a quick headcount.

I've not heard Sarah Phillimore speak before. She is amazing. But then she is a barrister! I would like her to be speaking for me, if I ever get nicked Grin

Oh damn! Never mind, nearly there!
I really enjoyed the protest, great to be part of a group of (mainly) women all on the same page of their Dangerous Books!

Jen is a super star.

I hope more people will feel they can speak out now. Objective Reality, Biological Truth, Sex not Gender is such an important message.
