Ouch ! Good article.

Dan Hodges, btw, is Glenda Jackson's son.

Thank you for sharing. That's a brilliant bit of journalism

Lordamighty · 20/02/2022 07:54

Dan Hodges has skewered him with that article.

Monitaurus · 20/02/2022 08:17

While I quite like the idea of the government being held to account, I would prefer Gina Miller to be in charge. And I would really like this guy to stop persecuting women and people upholding women’s rights

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 20/02/2022 08:39

That is some hatchet job.

One of the first comments under the line is 'follow the money' ...

Is the silk-wearing silk tweeting yet about crowdfunding to sue the Mail? He could represent himself and charge himself a fee to do it, paid for by the gullible; then crow afterwards about his inevitable loss being 'a victory'.

It's the Cognitive Dissonance Project.

bishophaha · 20/02/2022 08:46

I actually agree with a lot of the points made but why does it say GLP are attempting to remove the ballot box from the polling booth? Is that related to anything actually real or is it a weird turn of phrase that's not true?

sashagabadon · 20/02/2022 09:10

If he is worried about ā€œ cronyismā€ surely Kate Bingham’s appointment would fall into this category too? And yet he hasn’t gone after her. Presumably because she was super successful and credited with the vaccine programme.
But it’s a double standard. Either both Kate Bingham and Dido Harding appointments are cronyism or neither of them are (as it was an unprecedented situation where speed was of the essence rather than diversity tick boxing)

I think the point is that JM is trying to bring down an elected government via court cases rather than the usual way - in an election/ via the ballot box.
teawamutu · 20/02/2022 09:49

Excellent piece. As ever, pity it's in the Mail - most Guardian readers will dismiss it out of hand and they're the ones who could most benefit from it.

Dan seems to have drawn on the excellent description of GLP's business model from the Foxbotherer thread Grin

Plasmodesmata · 20/02/2022 10:29

Yes it will just get dismissed. There's probably quite an overlap between GLP supporters who want to bring down the government and Stop Funding Hate supporters who'd like to get rid of the Mail.

SamphiretheStickerist · 20/02/2022 10:48

Interesting. I knew much of the general anti this that and the other vitriol stemmed from GLP, but not all of that!

I had a look at Stop Funding Hate's site. It's interesting just how short the list of "ethical advertisers" are who have dropped supposedly problematic companies.

Audible apparently stopped advertising on Mumsnet yet I've just seen Audible popping up on The Mail on- line.

Hoardasurass · 20/02/2022 11:02

šŸŒž

KimikosNightmare · 20/02/2022 11:03

It's interesting.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/02/2022 11:07

I'd put "Stop Funding Hate" in the same bracket as the Good Law Project.

KimikosNightmare · 20/02/2022 13:24

And Audible is popping up as an advert on Mumsnet !

RoyalCorgi · 21/02/2022 11:36

Great piece (and I'm not normally a fan of Hodges) but it would have been good if he'd done a bit more to highlight the GLP's misuse of money. Probably had to be careful for legal reasons.

I was thinking that.

Or there's going to be a follow-up piece when the lawyers have cleared it ...

Yes, he doesn't explicitly say 'people are donating to cases on, eg, PPE contracts but may well find they're funding cases on JM's pet project to force the government to medically transition more children'.

Hopefully the sequel.
