Who's good at hashtags? I suggest #boycottwordle - in support of JKR

I like wordle, not so much since it went to the New York Times. Now after their stupid advert "imagine Harry Potter without its creator" I might boycott wordle altogether. Who's good at hashtags and can get this trending?

OP posts:

Oh shit. I hadn't joined the dots.

Redshoeblueshoe · 19/02/2022 13:30

JKR is regularly trending on Twitter, so you could just put #boycottwordle.

DomesticatedZombie · 19/02/2022 13:48

FFS. Is there not a split; can one choose the other wordle?

drum123 · 19/02/2022 13:54

There's another game called hellowordl. It's not quite as good, as it's not a once a day thing, so it can get a bit boring (I usually do 3 or 4 a day), and you can't share it with others as the words are randomly chosen each time you do it, but it's worth having a look.

HollowTalk · 19/02/2022 13:58

I am a huge supporter of JKR.

Why did the NYT say such a thing?

StellaAndCrow · 19/02/2022 14:17

I don't understand what the advert means "Imagine Harry Potter without its creator" - what point are they trying to make?

Is it an advert for Wordl - do they mean they've bought it from its creator?

SickAndTiredAgain · 19/02/2022 14:26

They have bought wordle. The advert is for the NYT in general, not for wordle specifically.

But yeah, I don’t really understand the point of it either. Not even from a pro JKR point of view, I just don’t get the actual point they are making in relation to NYT.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 19/02/2022 14:28

Saw this ad on Twitter earlier.

Its such disgusting misogyny - one of the most successful female authors of all time, a completely self made woman, successful in her own right because everyone loved her writing and the world she created so much.

And now they are trying to take it all away from her, simply because she has fucking opinions, some of which shock horror don't centre men and what men want.

Honestly, they can just fuck so far off.

Fairislefandango · 19/02/2022 14:31

Makes my blood boil tbh. I'm definitely boycotting Wordle.

StellaAndCrow · 19/02/2022 14:35

Thanks sickandtiredagain. Doesn't seem very successful as an advert - I can't understand what they're getting at from either a pro- or anti-JKR stance.
They wouldn't get away with it on The Apprentice!

StellaAndCrow · 19/02/2022 14:40

Ah this makes some sense::
'Launched this week, the campaign promotes the newspaper’s so-called “independent journalism” using ads that profile four different subscribers from different demographics, each of whom has apparently made the newspaper an integral part of their lives.
One of the spotlighted subscribers, named “Lianna” who would like to see Rowling erased from the Harry Potter canon.'

TheOccupier · 19/02/2022 14:43

Can anyone post a copy of the advert? TIA

Pemba · 19/02/2022 14:46

I don't use Wordl, think I have vaguely heard it mentioned. Is it a game?

But I do have an online subscription to the New York Times. Should I cancel? Happy to do so, there's plenty of other news sources.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 19/02/2022 14:48

It's a series of adverts on the subway. I think they have different people with different text overlay, this is Lianna's ....

Not sure what is so 'independent' about trying to take a female's achievements away from her because you don't like some of her opinions, but hey ho....

Who's good at hashtags? I suggest #boycottwordle - in support of JKR

I don't get it. I would interpret, 'Imagine Harry Potter without its creator' as meaning: you can't. It wouldn't exist. She made that world.

What do you all think it means?

Also, if I type wordle into google, the top hit is www.wordleunlimited.com not the NYT version. You could use that one instead. (It's not the same. I sometimes play both in a day.)

Thecazelets · 19/02/2022 14:56

Well that's a complete pain. I really enjoy Wordle, but I like JKR more. What on earth is the NYT thinking?

The thing is, they are using someone who started subscribing to them (so presumably someone they think represents them and is represented by them) who is saying it, so I would interpret that as them saying they think trying to imagine HP without its creator is totally legitimate. If that makes sense?
Theimpossiblegirl · 19/02/2022 15:02

I'm confused. Harry Potter wouldn't exist without JKR. What is their point? To erase her or to say that it can't be taken away from her? It's just vague.

I think they are trying to make a point about 'separating the art from the artist' - you know, like how people do about male artists who are actual paedophiles (Michael Jackson, Roman Polanski etc) - apparently JKR is in the same league Hmm

Linguini · 19/02/2022 15:11

I was boycotting Wordle anyway, since the NYTimes removed a load certain words available to use as starting guess words, and result words because the words are not woke. Like the word for a female dog.

Linguini · 19/02/2022 15:12

But this JKR stuff is simply horrid. Just leave her alone for godsake.

OK. Thank you. In context, it's feeble but yes, probably intended to be misogyny dressed as wokery. How independent.
blublub · 19/02/2022 15:22

That’s unbelievably offensive! I am offended on her behalf! The woman is responsible for Harry Potter, you can’t remove her, it’s her world. She created it and continues to do so.

Try Sweardle
sweardle.com
or Worldle
worldle.teuteuf.fr
or Nerdle
nerdlegame.com
or Quordle
www.quordle.com/#/

All good variations. I like Worldle, but I seem to be especially good at Sweardle.

Cuck00soup · 19/02/2022 15:48

Imagine Lord of the Rings without Tolkien?

Imagine A Christmas Carol without Dickens

Hamlet? Pride and Prejudice? Ulysses?
Never questioned is it?
