This is a really easy way of emailing your MP ahead of the debate on Monday 21 February.

Done. My Labour MP is full on TWAW. Ironically she was selected via an AWSL. She's standing down at the next election.

VelvetChairGirl · 19/02/2022 17:58

KittyLeMew · 19/02/2022 21:41

Bosky · 21/02/2022 02:08

Bump!

WomenFromVenusDoNotHaveAPenis · 21/02/2022 09:07

Let's see what happens today...

Manderleyagain · 21/02/2022 14:59

Is there any news on who is down to speak? Where is that kind of thing listed?

JoyousAsOtters · 21/02/2022 15:16

Looks like it’s on parliament tv from 4.30pm UK time:

MaMaLa321 · 21/02/2022 17:29

I can't bear to watch- the idiot "be kind" brigade will make me too angry.....

AngelicInnocent · 21/02/2022 17:52

Is anyone tweeting? Can't log in to parliament TV where I am today.

Imnobody4 · 21/02/2022 18:29

Finding this depressing. Massive gay male MP (his words) declares we all need to pee, get over it. Followed by Joanna Cherry whose is excellent and cutting through the 'be kind' rubbish.

poshme · 21/02/2022 18:37

If it's a standard copy & paste letter some MPs won't answer it.

NotSoLittle · 21/02/2022 18:50

I didn't realise my mp (Catheine West) was such a TRA :(

She replied to my email saying she is " committed to championing the rights of trans people."
"I am concerned that the current process for obtaining a Gender Recognition Certificate is slow, stigmatising, humiliating, complicated and expensive and takes between 2-5 years. I have long called on the Government to introduce a system of self-declaration for trans people.
On 22 September 2020, the Government finally published its response to reforming the GRA. The delay in responding to this consultation is completely unacceptable and I am concerned that it has created a hostile environment for LGBT+ people. The consultation response stated, “The requirements necessary to legally change gender will remain the same, but the process will be modernised”. The Minister for Women and Equalities outlined that “the balance struck in the existing legislation is correct”.
It is deeply disappointing that the Government have let trans people down and dropped their plans to reform the GRA. The debate around reform of the Act has been intensely fought and has caused great harm to many.
I fully support updating the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) to introduce self-declaration for trans people. I believe this will help improve their lives. Everybody should be able to be their true self, and nobody should suffer discrimination, abuse or violence because of who they are. It is deeply concerning that Home Office statistics for England and Wales in 2019/20 said there had been a 16% increase in recorded hate crimes against trans people since the previous year. I know that hate crimes against trans people are significantly under-reported, with research by Stonewall stating that four in five trans people do not report the hate crime they experience. Hate crime has no place in our society.

I can assure you that I am committed to equality and inclusion for trans people and will continue to support updating the GRA to introduce self-declaration for trans people. I hope you understand my views on this."

Manderleyagain · 21/02/2022 19:23

I watched a bit of this. Had to go during the 'massive gay' mp so missed joanna cherry. One good thing is that compared to 2018 when only David tc Davies spoke against self id, and a long list of po faced Puritans said be kind etc (and their dem woman said she accepts a bearded person in the womens changing room because ' I see them in their soul') things have improved hugely. So much better. Varied views and ponts on both sides. No debate is over.
But the tra mps are still repeating things that are not true. The 'spousal veto' is no such going and seems reasonable once you actually look at it. Trans women with a grc are indeeed automatically sent tk a women's prison to be assessed there. And gra reform is about more than the narrow issue if a birth certificate.
There was also some friendliness between ppl on different sides and acknowledgement if where they are coming from. Except for that Scottish mp ms Black. I found myself saying out loud 'what a tosser'.

MaMaLa321 · 21/02/2022 20:05

It was interesting, but I found it very sad that no English Left-Wing MPs seemed to have any interest in women.
Miriam Cates and Joanna Cherry stood out, as well as the MP sitting in front of Miriam Cates (Jackie Doyle Price?). It was very frustrating that we weren't given their names.
I found it offensive nonsense to hear how often the line that there had been aggression on both sides was trotted out.

BattyOrange · 21/02/2022 22:43

Same here. It feels like such a betrayal doesn't it.... My MP has assured me that he "shares my views on gender" and that "the Government is committed to protecting environments for women-only spaces" as well as supporting the EHRC - but he's a raging Tory Confused
Totally goes against the grain but that feels like my only voting option come the next GE unless Labour sort their act out or the SDP can field a candidate in my area.

Monitaurus · 23/02/2022 18:36

Just caught up with this...surprised that no one actually tried to give a definition of what they mean by trans and non binary. Sounded a though they want a complete free for all. Thank you to Joanna Cherry, Mirían Cates, the gay man and one or two others who actually recognise that women and girls need dignity and respect and privacy. If any one is really concerned about the difficulty of the process, they should try applying for any benefit, such as attendance allowance or citizenship or any other process . It is ridiculous that for one group of people they can make such huge concessions. And as for Angela Eagle and Mhairi Black...why can’t they realise how they have utterly betrayed other lesbians.
