Reform of the Gender Recognition Act to be debated by MPs on Monday the 21st February 2022
committees.parliament.uk/committee/326/petitions-committee/news/160946/reform-of-the-gender-recognition-act-to-be-debated-by-mps/

Lets have suggestions for actions. We have only a few days notice to register a protest.
Contact your MP and ask how they intend to vote (then afterwards check how they voted.)

I posted a voting thread in AIBU. This is not a TAAT.

95% against so far. This reflects society at large’s view. Many also think that the GRA should be repealed and the GRC abolished due to the major safeguarding issues they have caused.

JellySaurus · 17/02/2022 06:34

Can this even be an honest debate? MPs want to retain their positions. Given the filth that is thrown at any MPs who speak up in favour of protecting women's rights, including by their own parties, will any of them actually risk their positions to do so?

Witheringtong · 17/02/2022 09:50

Quick bump.

I’d appreciate that a template letter about this from someone who knows the ins and outs of this. I’d like to register my GC views on this but don’t actually know what to say

purpleboy · 17/02/2022 10:09

I just called my MP and spoke the the secretary, I told her about the debate and said I wanted to inform them I don't agree with it. She said she would pass the message on and hung up 🤷🏽‍♀️

Even if someone’s MP does not agree, at lease they will know if some of their constituents disagree and not be able to claim, as one MP did, that she had never heard of any dissent.

Rightsraptor · 18/02/2022 10:59

Why didn't we know they were doing this? I didn't, anyway.

The petition link will give you a map showing the range of votes in each constituency. It would be helpful if each MP could get an equal or greater number of 'votes' - comments against - the ammendment. And all by Monday!

Thank you for that link.

Incredibly easy and fast to do.

Thanks
RoyalCorgi · 18/02/2022 11:33

The debate won't change anything - the government has already announced its GRA reforms. These debates are just for show, as far as I can see.

Witheringtong · 18/02/2022 12:09

I'm going to make a new email address to do this because I'm sure my email is blacklisted and my MP doesn't see them.
The debate is an example of pushing at a boundary until there's not enough effective pushback.

@purpleboy thank you for that link.

I asked to meet my MP about the Conversion Therapy bill. He got back to me after the window had closed but apologised and offered to meet anyway. I’ll take him up on it and will reply raising this as well! I have a fairly brief list of things to bring up…
checks list
Oh wait. I meant long…
