I thought you'd all enjoy this from Nancy:

amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/feb/15/trans-rights-risk-human-rights-body-threaten-all-ehrc-un

Think that is the very last straw for me cancelling my Guardian subscription. I only kept it because I accidentally paid for another year a few months ago.

'Human rights must take precedence over personal beliefs'

Wait til someone tells Nancy women have human rights, too!

DinosaurOnlySpaces · 15/02/2022 19:25

Heaven forfend that access to single sex spaces should be restricted to a single sex.

The very idea of it!

Blimey, do you think she gets how very ironic that statement is, or is she really that obtuse?! Confused

Can anyone explain the conversion therapy issue to me in a nutshell? I don't understand.

Pluvia · 15/02/2022 19:30

They steal our dinosaurs, they steal the suffragette colours, they steal everything we say.

CompleteGinasaur · 15/02/2022 19:35

Well, I suppose if you're so lost to reason and decency that you think (other) lesbians (not me though, no, I'm married - did I mention I was married?) ought to just get with the program and start sucking that ldd*ck, then a whole article in the Graun turning black into white about self id and conversion therapy is pretty easy for you.

GCITC · 15/02/2022 19:35

Transition has been used as a form of gay conversation therapy, stats from GIDs show homophobic parents were presenting to the clinic with GNC gay children.

So in banning conversion therapy for both homosexuality and gender identity, you are in effect allowing gay conversion therapy.

Those of us "against" the ban simply want it to be made clear that this will not be allowed to happen. What constitutes conversion therapy needs to be stated explicitly.

CompleteGinasaur · 15/02/2022 19:41

I'm beginning to think calling her 'Dolores Umbridge' was actually insulting to JKR's villain (head tilt, prevarication, tinkly meaningless laugh..)

The "conversation therapy bill" includes gender identity. It says it should be illegal to try and dissuade someone of their gender identity (or homosexuality).

Basically the bill would be writing into law an affirmation-only approach for gender non conforming children (most of whom grow out of trans ideology) and aims to put teachers and therapists who adopt a more explorative approach towards gender non conforming people at risk of prosecution.

Linguini · 15/02/2022 19:49

Sorry I see 19:35 GCITC replied already I agree

What constitutes conversion therapy needs to be stated explicitly.

The bill includes LGB and T when the two things are very different.

OperationDessertStorm · 15/02/2022 20:04

In Australia they were trying to prevent parents and therapists from being able to even raise any questions about a persons gender identity. That makes it very difficult to talk about co morbidities like trauma, autism, bullying, sexual orientation etc.

It’s a massive overreach.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 15/02/2022 20:07

Sex Matters on conversion therapy is informative.

That's exactly the problem.

If Stonewall would only drop the LG and B from its alphabet soup, continue to ignore sex and talk about gender, it would be clearer to everyone, including themselves, what their focus and position are.

Here’s another article by Carolyn Tate about how she was sure when pregnant she was having a boy:

www.kidspot.com.au/parenting/mum-shares-the-story-of-her-sons-transition-on-the-i-swear-i-never-podcast/news-story/7313e874fc1d38623751d78c31336841

Her child has had mastectomy 5 years on from being 12. So still 17? Best case scenario being generous with maths the “coming out” was at 12 and 9 months and has recently turned 18. But still…let’s ask Carolyn to write an article about their child’s wellbeing in 5-10 years and see how that’s going.

I’m sure in the interests of balance the Guardian will publish an opinion piece from a women’s rights organisation and a detransitioner who regrets their mastectomy…

The LGB bit is working as the trojan horse to gain what is really desired and where all the political weight is, which is T interests in preventing anyone doing or saying anything other than unconditional affirmation.

That the beliefs of this lobby are actively homophobic and actively attempt (Kelley personally) to reason, bully, shame and threaten lesbians into straight sex on the grounds of a male person's self definition and use words like 'learn to cope with' and 'bigot' for being homosexual? And that being your actual, proper conversion therapy?

Well any coherent sense and logic left the building years ago.

'Human rights must take precedence over personal beliefs'

I agree, Nancy. The human rights of women to have accessible services that meet their needs, a place to pee, to be allowed to be homosexual and to not be used for the sexual and assault purposes of male prisoners, should very definitely come over the personal belief of a male person that they should be seen as something they in fact are not.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2022 08:33

They steal our dinosaurs, they steal the suffragette colours, they steal everything we say.

It's the whole MO. Kelley knows full well what she is saying. She knows who her audience is and what message she wishes to send both to them and us.
