Green Party boys need their heads checked. 8c, Staniforth pushing this.

Rats boarding a sinking ship? Edinburgh council need to know we aren't having this. The people pushing for this should be held accountable when the court cases hit in schools.

'... I’d call myself ‘cis non-binary’ - even though some might consider that a non-sequitur.'

Confused

I remember when I were a lad and words used to mean things.

The councillor who pushed for Stonewall is taking an "interesting" approach to the pushback.

Ah, the "identity group person said x therefore we must believe/do x."

'Cause we all know that all identity group people are the same, after all.

And it's not like a governing body has to consider it's goals and responisbilities, or the views of regular old non-identity people, much less justify its spending to them!

It sounds great. I'm not sure what's "queer" about it though, or why people need to feel safe in a shop. Best of luck to them though!

Holy hyperbole, Prounoun Man!

And I don't think there's much equivalence between these two things, frankly.

MangyInseam · 16/02/2022 20:04

And I don't think there's much equivalence between these two things, frankly.

Shouldn't they both have to be justified in terms of more than some people asked for them? What is the cost, what's the expected outcome, what changes based on what is found, do people actually want it done, etc.

I suspect that even some of the BAME people, who are after all not all in lockstep, might prefer the new bins to the money spent on the historical project.

MangyInseam · 16/02/2022 20:07

The whole premise is just flawed.

morningtoncrescent62 · 16/02/2022 23:07

There's an LGBT+ staff network at my workplace, and a less representative bunch you never did meet. Most lesbians stay well away from them - we refer to them as the Stasi, but not when anyone can hear us, just in case. I'm sure the Edinburgh City Council one is no different. The idea that they've asked for something, and what they've asked for they have to get, is at the root of many problems in intolerant workplaces.

These networks seemed like such a good idea when they first started, but they've evolved into thought-policing monsters. Kathleen Stock wrote a good article about them last year. lesbianandgaynews.com/2021/02/kathleen-stock-anti-social-networks/

littlbrowndog · 16/02/2022 23:27

Alex the he/ him who says Gc are nazis.

He’s a typical leftie Edinburgh man. He/him

  • I've come to the conclusion that if a minority group ask for something, you should give it to them. -

Whereas if a majority group ask for something, you should spit in their faces?

MangyInseam · 17/02/2022 01:52

That article by Stock is interesting. In a way it's difficult to see how groups like this could fail to be contentious if they are meant to represent the views of all in the group. Some people will always lose out.

FunnyTalks · 17/02/2022 08:20

The problem with women is there are just too many of us! And that apparently negates the centuries of crap from men.

Re the queer vegetarian/vegan shop... I'm guessing they won't be "queering" (blurring the boundaries of) the food, right? I'm vegan. It's pretty important to me that a product doesn't just identify as containing no animal produce.

DomesticatedZombie · 17/02/2022 09:07

'I have come to the conclusion that when a minority group asks you to do something, in general you should.'

'BAME groups want an independent enquiry into the city’s colonial past? You do it. LGBT+ staff want you to join the Diversity Champions scheme? You do it. No ifs, no buts.'

What, anything? Any minority group? No ifs, no buts?

Sounds a bit like 'Acceptance, no exceptions'.

I'd give it about five minutes more thought, Alex, and see why this might not be the brightest idea anyone's ever come up with.

Read the room Alex - Stonewall are a poisoned chalice.

Thing is that this is slipping under the radar. How can it be stopped?

Who is the "they" who is coming for the trans people?

What does he/him/non binary think women are doing to trans people?

Not wanting a man in a bathroom with a girl is "coming for trans people"?

Not wanting men who are sexual predators in womens prisons is coming for trans people?

Wanting proper study into the vast amount of girls transitioning is coming for trans people?

Get a grip Alex.

Now he's said he's non binary he will have to wear that as his inclusive badge to show he is as special as the BAME people he thinks he understands.

@CompleteGinasaur

A Lesbian shoe shop? All merchandise extremely sensible..
I was once told I had to be lesbian because I was wearing comfortable Clarks shoes. I'd just had my ingrown toenails removed.
Saisong · 17/02/2022 10:18

"Cis non-binary" he/himmer Hmm

Alex is the very definition of a useful idiot.

NonnyMouse1337 · 17/02/2022 12:30

'BAME groups want an independent enquiry into the city’s colonial past? You do it. LGBT+ staff want you to join the Diversity Champions scheme? You do it. No ifs, no buts.'

Fuck me, these white woke bros are so tedious. 🙄

Alex, I'm an Indian woman who has made Edinburgh her home for over 15 years. Self-appointed 'BAME groups' do not represent me. I don't give a flying fuck about the city's colonial past. Just fix the fucking pot holes and the overflowing rubbish bins, ok?

I'm also bisexual and Stonewall and its batshit ideological policies don't represent me either. Since my skin colour and sexual orientation trumps yours, will you sit the fuck down and stop spouting shite? We can all play the identity game, and mine supersedes yours every time.

Signed,
A Woman (Adult Human Female) with enough self-respect to not subscribe to Critical Race theory and Queer theory.

DomesticatedZombie · 17/02/2022 12:44

Shh, Nonny, the white cis non-binary he/himmer knows what's best for you. No ifs no buts.

I have to admire his ingenuity - cis non-binary - wtf?! 😂
morningtoncrescent62 · 18/02/2022 09:12

Can someone explain "cis non-binary" to me? I genuinely can't work this one out. In the language of the faith, was he assigned non-binary at birth? Because I thought (again in the language of the faith) that cis meant your identity matched your sex assigned at birth.

I can picture the scene at the birthing pool. "It's a beautiful non-binary, Mx Staniforth".

LittleWhingingWoman · 18/02/2022 09:29

Calling women who are worried about safeguarding nazis - being accused of having white privilege and then magically coming out as non binary - will it give him protection?

My Edinburgh resident, wheelchair using Dd would like the council to provide decent dropped kerbs at every crossing. As a member of a minority group (and with a high degree of confidence that almost all of the group would agree) she can have that, no ifs, no buts??
