Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

trans extremists threaten not only the standing of the LGBTQ+ movement, but the hard-won gains of the anti-discrimination movement of the past 50 years.

Pure common sense. Thanks!

It's a toxic movement. It splits apart everything it comes into contact with! But the people pushing it seem to think any pushback they're getting is evidence that they have more work to do, and on they plough.

Toxic wokeism, or whatever it's called (what is it called?) is pulling apart political parties, the green movement, feminism, anti-racism, support for women caught up in prostitution, refugee support and international aid, women's services, disability support, maternity support groups, the list goes on.

Everywhere, you need to be pure of mind or be cast out. It's very much like a modern religion, even more so as believers see it as the true word and not an ideology.

Such a good comment planningtomakeaplan - and an excellent article. It's the opposite of a liberation movement. It's regressive, intolerant and enforced by institutionalised bullying and rampant misogyny.

What the small minority of largely ‘natal men’ campaigners actually want is for sex to be declared a matter of the imagination – specifically their own.

Hear hear!

fabricstash · 13/02/2022 22:03

Very well said! Thanks for sharing this article

Toxic wokeism, or whatever it's called (what is it called?)

There was a long thread on this a month or two ago, and no really great option emerged. I have recently though, seen it called Successor ideology, which is an interesting possibility.

RedToothBrush · 13/02/2022 23:42

Just a point but what do straight white usually middle class male dudes have to lose if 50 years of anti-discrimination work went down the pan?

Remind me again what is the objective here again?

DisappearingGirl · 14/02/2022 09:12

Brilliant. Trouble is that everyone is too cowardly to be the grown up in charge. It really is the emperor's new clothes.

The forced teaming is a strategy from the Denton Playbook

It's in danger of reversing hard won rights. How very odd that a group of privileged people are so intent on compelling the world to their view that they're indifferent to the consequences for others.

Beowulfa · 14/02/2022 09:32

Trevor Phillips has seen it all. He knows his shit:

"I served three full terms [in the EHRC] under different Labour administrations and the Tory/Lib Dem coalition, and it is a matter of public record that I managed to piss them all off with some regularity."

The line "a language despotism that has emerged from the faculty lounges of minor North American universities" really made me laugh.

Pluvia · 14/02/2022 09:41

Thank you, Trevor Phillips, if by any chance you are reading this.

SwissBall · 14/02/2022 09:48

They regarded any consideration of the needs of others as a betrayal of their right to shape the world exactly to their desires, and anyone who did not do their bidding as a ‘phobe’.

This is a notion that, frankly, could only emerge from a privileged group of white men, who believe that the world should be shaped exactly as they want it in order to fulfil their fantasies.

Very glad to see this group named as they are and not the most vulnerable and oppressed as they are usually.

NonnyMouse1337 · 14/02/2022 11:40

Read this yesterday but forgot to comment on it. Really good article from Trevor Phillips. He calls it out for what it is.

SayYouDontMind · 14/02/2022 11:54

Trevor Phillips strikes me as a very principled man who has never prioritised his career trajectory over standing by his principles. He is fearless. Having dealt with the tragic death of his own adult daughter through anorexia he obviously knows the heartache and frustration of watching someone you desperately love be impervious to attempts to help.

I have a lot of time for the man. I know he has fallen out of favour with many. His work as a TV broadcaster in getting the plight of the Windrush generation into the mainstream discourse was so important. I may have disagreement with some of his statements but I will listen to him because he speaks from experience, with knowledge and compassion.
