Ian Patterson a doctor here in a private clinic who was diagnosing cancers in order to operate. He was lauded until it became clear there was a problem. It turned out he had been operating on healthy bodies but diagnosing cancer when there was none.

Ian Paterson, 59, carried out "extensive, life-changing operations for no medically-justifiable reason". His motives were "obscure" but may have included a desire to "earn extra money", Nottingham Crown Court heard. Paterson was found guilty of 17 counts of wounding with intent, relating to nine women and one man. jailed for 15 years.
