School diversity day

My dc’s high school is due to run a day on diversity covering the protected characteristics apparently. There’s very little information on content merely mentioning the structure of the day and that it’ll be filled with fun activities. School is a stonewall champion. Would you enquiry in a little more depth about the content of the day? My dc and I regularly talk about diversity and disabilities as there youngest sibling is autistic. We also talk about “gender”. Would you speak to the school?

Oh it’s each year group has a focus on one protected characteristic. They don’t look at all of them.

Yes I would. I'd want to make sure they are not mistaking gender identity as a protected characteristic and reinforcing regressive stereotypes

I think it is great to celebrate diversity in all forms - race and disability etc. And to not forget that sex is also a protected characteristic.

I think it’s brilliant they’re celebrating diversity. I think I’m a little wary on the gender side of things as they’ve had trans people in before and although DC is quite GC I’m interested in the content they’ll be covering.

I would check that the school has listed Sex rather than Gender as one of the PCs (and is not squeamish about saying ‘Sex’ as that’s part of why we are where we are), and that if they want to cover Gender Identity, this is dealt with under the PC of religion or belief.
