House of Lords now talking about single sex wards

House of Lords currently debating single sex wards in hospitals as part of health and care bill

Thank you for the transcripts. I feel it’s important to view the words written down. I think Baroness Nicholson was wonderful, sharp and quick in her response.

The belittling wording of “slightly vulnerable”

"The NHS is committed to meeting its duties under the Equality Act and, as such, needs to give due regard to both those whose gender identity is the same as their biological sex at birth and those whose gender identity is not. This means that the rights and needs of women and trans women are equal in law.”

Is this not a misrepresentation of the law (as usual) Gender identity - I hope he think he means sex/gender reassignment in its appropriate sense. Does he realise? Is this deliberate to broaden the cohort? Should ‘protection’ be limited to holders of a GRC, for clarity, in law?

And Baroness Nicholson and Lord Blencathra (and their team) are well versed in HoL procedure, so the withdrawal is part & parcel of the strategy.
As she says, and I hope she won’t mind me quoting her words from Twitter:

"it didn’t go to thé vote.I informed thé Minister and worked with the Opposition to inform that Ld Blencathra and I were seeking a review;as was Lord Hunt.That’s what we got. Success not failure.We do not fail.”
