I know it's a tired old meme, but then apparently so are women's rights.

"trying to be inclusive on Idiots' Day"

Spitspotsput · 08/02/2022 22:17

The term disturbing springs to mind. I know why you use those clips but to be told that I am a Nazi by people I apparently agree with as though it was funny leaves me speechless, disgusted and various other feelings.

Its not funny

Interesting feedback, thanks. To @butnobodytoldme, the beauty about idiots day is that one can apply whatever grammar one wishes (grammar Nazis also being made fun of later in the clip). @Spitspotsput, here I thought the fingerbanging in Berlin reference would be a killer to this crowd (of which I am generally an admirer) in particular. Guess I didn't read the room very well!

I'm certainly not calling anybody Nazis. There's a lot going on here - it's not the usual supposed laff riot most of these things go for; if you were expecting that, I'm not surprised you don't find it funny. At the risk of bringing the marvellous critical faculties available on this board down on me, it's deep, man. Having said that, I don't wish to dig any deeper, and shall attempt to make a graceful exit as opposed to an ungracious plop.

I’m sorry but this wasn’t very well executed. I might have got some of the context and the jokes if only I could have read all of the subtitles before the shots changed. 4/10

Don't be sorry Bitter, it's all grist for the mill.

Timing, as they say, is everything. Even the longer clip wasn't long enough to pack in everything I wanted; slowing it down to .75 isn't really an option, alas.

Unlike most other practitioners of this particular art form, I attempt to synch at least some of the action to the particular dialogue I'm (admittedly) labouring to squeeze in here. I can only but keep my fingers crossed and await a critic worthy of the material. No offence.

If I manage to get all the formatting right it'll be a miracle. Maybe some day there will be an edit function. Meanwhile, here goes…

While I'm aware it's unlikely I'll be able to talk anybody into laughing (not my main goal, though admittedly it's up there) at something they've just watched and not been amused by, perhaps a bit of background wouldn't go amiss.

I'm also HowToCookAWolf, over on this thread. I'm the one whose post, slightly better reviewed than this video, got deleted from another forum.

[Here I must stop an apologise, first of all for doing a post (this one) about a post (in the British Cycling thread) about a post (on my own site) about a post (of mine deleted on yet another site), which must set some kind of record whilst breaking the Mumsnet rule about posts about posts multiple times. Second because I'm in danger of making this all about me, when it isn't. It's about how we use our precious freedom of speech, such as it exists in the places we try to exercise it. I figure this aspect of it is particularly of interest here at FWR.]

Now then, in the thread from which my post buried in this Russian doll of an explanation was deleted, Nazis were referenced extensively. (For that extra touch of nastiness, Docstockk, aka Kathleen Stock, was gifted with a third k.) This was one of the influences for my video. The other was the fact that I've done about half a dozen of these now, mostly about the cycling world because I'm on a bike a lot: see Exhibits and , the last of which aficionados, if any exist, will note has certain resemblances to the one above. Of particular note is that in that last video I made myself Hitler. Hey, it's always fun playing the baddie.

Having already crossed that line, doing it again it didn't much concern me, as Hitler in this latest video partly represents anyone (mostly men) who haven't yet gotten up to speed on trans issues: those "unwary" that Magdalen Berns so memorably took to task. This briefly included me, once upon a time. From my browsing here over the years I know it also included some of you. I think it includes anybody who wants to do the right thing but isn't yet aware of what that is because so much of what is being thrown at us is new and confusing, the latter often by design.

Setting all this in that particular bunker has of course been done before, doubtless multiple times, though the only one I know of is Glinner's. I doubt anybody else attempts to stuff as much as I do into these videos, for example, the bit with Hitler's specs at the beginning. Sometimes less is more, but sometimes more really is more. If you watch it again (or at least pause the video if necessary) you may agree.

Or not, of course. There's no accounting for taste. Mel Brooks said "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die." Hitler is the open sewer, if you see what I mean. God knows not everybody finds this dusty old meme format funny, for perfectly good reasons. And god knows I've not won any Oscars for film editing. What I am is an ally ("Team Terf," as Chappelle put it), using what tools I have to do my bit.
