Referrals to Gender Clinics in Sweden Drop After Media Coverage

WarriorN · 08/02/2022 06:44

Media coverage of transgender healthcare judged to be "negative" was associated with a drop of around 30% in referral rates to gender identity clinics in Sweden among young people under age 19, a new study indicates.

This is "trans train" etc

Also interesting are 3 articles below that are not particularly favourable towards WPATH and mention detransitioners

This is good news.

I hope many more have seen how the people involved in thr medical side are all quick to welcome you , quick to tell your parents the kidd need to he asked to do this. But...as with what happened with that poor poor Leo, you will keep left with with spine of a 90 year old and anyone raising concerns about how the treatment is carried out, and how no one is taking responsibility for the negative side effects, is fired.

Everyone deserves so much better.

Sweden has been the place to watch for some time and I'm hoping that after the Cass review, we will be too. I wonder when that review is going to be complete?

DomesticatedZombie · 08/02/2022 10:05

Cass review - nothing since October last year. Not exactly burning with urgency, are they?

Goatsaregreat · 08/02/2022 11:05

I suspect that the Cass review are struggling to find ways of describing "social contagion" without calling it "social contagion"

Whatwouldscullydo · 08/02/2022 11:20

How long can they be held off?

Surely there cones a point where they are failing to fulfil their legal obligations?

WarriorN · 08/02/2022 12:24

When WPATH are calling it social contagion (Bowers) when will Cass and the nhs?

Medscape doesn't seem very supportive of the ideology:

Lisa Nainggolan seems to be writing a lot of tellers articles

Good news. Certainly a step in the right direction.

The interim recommendations from the Cass review are due this month so we should hear more soon.

The appointment of the new chair at Tavistock is going to be interesting.

A WHRC webinar in 2021 had a presentation by a Swedish author (Kajsa Ekis Ekman) who reported that she had been contacted by a Swedish infertility clinician who claimed to be seeing increasing numbers of women in their 20s who (after testing) have atrophy of their reproductive organs. These are women who had been treated with puberty blockers and cross hormones at a young age (Dutch protocol) and gone on to have difficulty with conception. (It seems that they had detransitioned but this wasn't entirely clear.)

Thanks for sharing this, I needed some good news today.

I don’t understand how there can be so many expert articles, entire books written and published on ROGD and the problems with affirmative care, yet nothing seems to be changing, and in eg Scotland it seems to be going the other way?

WarriorN · 09/02/2022 09:22

I think there is still a lot of this narrative to unpick.

The numbers of lgbtq charities and orgs that push the narrative are enormous.

It will take as long as it took to get to the peak, if not longer, to fall back down.

The structures that provide the ideology with credence are there now throughout in society. From where vulnerable are to the richest.

Various People make a lot of money from all this. Wittingly or unwittingly. Social media is awash. America is absolutely captured in particular.

Kara Dansky, a feminist in the US wrote this tweet yesterday:

I have the following message from a U.S. pediatrician (with due credit given to TERF Island!). Sharing it here, anonymously, with all identifying information redacted, with permission, word for word. The spell is breaking. 1/12

Kara, I'm not certain this is the best way to contact you and I apologize for using your professional site. However, I just wanted to let you know that I am available as a resource for you and your organization... 2/12

I am a board certified pediatrician in the US. I have been in practice since [YEAR], and sadly, am going to take a few years off of clinical medicine... 3/12

My decision to walk away for now is multifactorial, but a definite contributing factor is my inability to continue playing along with the trans narrative for children... 4/12

Unfortunately, I live in [STATE], a state where speaking out and expressing my opinion could result in the loss of my license.)... 5/12

I've been a closet TERF (thank you Mumsnet and the UK!) for about five years now, and only a few friends and family know my true feelings. As you are well aware, speaking out can be professional suicide, and I haven't been ready to take that step... 6/12

And

I'm disgusted by the AAP and have not renewed my membership (!) based on their pro-trans position... 10/12

https://twitter.com/kdansky/status/1491149839971024897?s=21

It's going to take so long to change some of these laws and structures.
