Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Spectrum: Do All Feminists Think The Same

An enlightening video, proving feminism is being co-opted by MRAs.

At 5 mins in they ask “Trans women are women” (a statement for them to agree or disagree with). The three women say disagree. The two men and the (obvious) transman say agree.

And at the end of that segment the transman says feminists should be “fighting for everyone’s genders”. And the amazing women gives the epic reply “I don’t think so, that defeats the entire movement.”

Feminism is the only civil rights movement that is expected to centre the oppressor it's fighting against.

DoubleTweenQueen · 02/02/2022 09:13

Nice to see that. Thanks

TheCurrywurstPrion · 02/02/2022 09:13

That was fascinating, thanks, especially when it came to the question regarding whether “transwomen are women”.

Wonderful to see some very strong young women on the panel, who were not afraid to stand against the pressure exerted on them.

The split on that question is very similar to the general split I see on Twitter, where in the main, it’s men and transitioning people who support the concept, and women who understand exactly why men are not women, however much they wish they were.

DryHeave

That was a very interesting video.

And one to link every.single.time a poster claims that young women are not supporting females being able to describe themselves, have single sex spaces and to have separate rights when ‘sex’ matters.

In learning about the US case for female suffrage I was always amazed the displeasure/outrage of some that female suffragists did not put the campaign for Black suffrage first, but the almost total overlooking of the fact that the campaign for black Americans to vote was for only for the males - as far as I remember most female suffragists campaigned also for the rights of black American women to vote.

Those women were brilliant. That woke bloke in an "I can be a feminist too" t shirt Grin the calm clear way the women made their points without retreating behind hyperbole.

I loved the way one of them asked one of the guys what she would have to do to be a man, and he didn't really know how to answer, just waffled about spectrums, after saying definitively that TW "lived as women".

Goatsaregreat · 02/02/2022 10:33

Very interesting. Good to see such a respectful debate.

waterlego · 02/02/2022 10:48

Thanks for sharing this. I found it interesting how for the first few questions, I was completely aligned with 2 of the women, and then on the pro-choice question, it all completely changed!

Linguini · 02/02/2022 20:25

I got confused by the pro choice question, "should all feminists be pro choice" they disagreed.

Overall i think I'd disagree too, because it's saying to be a feminist you all have to agree with everything.

In America the anti choice movement is huge, women getting abortions are harassed outside the surgeries, and it's a huge political area very unlike here, where abortion is pretty much normalised.

I sympathize with women in America who won't get an abortion for religious, ethical or political reasons, and would never say that these woman can't be a feminist.

It was interesting. The women certainly came across far stronger while the men (and transman) seemed to glare at them angrily!

waterlego · 02/02/2022 21:04

Yes, I thought the same @Linguini. I agreed with them that a feminist doesn’t HAVE to be pro-choice, but was quite surprised that the woman in the blue/green top (Grace?) was pro-life. Purely because my views had totally aligned with hers up to that point.

Delphinium20 · 02/02/2022 22:35

The Black woman in the yellow top rocked her answers, I believe. I love how she countered the one man who talked about 'living like a woman' and she replied that all answers to how include stereotypes. Loved her!!!
