Listening to parliament TV live, waiting for Boris, and heard Stoke on Trent MP, Jonathan Gullis (Tory) ask:

Sadly it seems the cancel culture has arrived on our doorsteps after the Wokerati made formal complaints about criminology professer James Treadwell who tweated that transgender women should not be allowed in womens prisons citing research that found that half of women in prison have experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse. Will my honourable friend share my despair that this tiny, extreme minority who wish to silence anyone they disagree with. Will you share in lending your support to Professor Treadwell?

That won't be word for word because he was going awfully fast, but that's the gist.

The reply was from a women I don't know, saying there was a committment to free speech in campuses, that legislation was being brought, and that the University of Sussex was being investigated, but I didn't catch by who.

Thought people might be interested.

This hits the nail on the head but it also makes clear that our elected representatives are not ignorant about what is happening they simply, in most cases, choose to remain silent to avoid the mob coming for them. Cowards.

I'd recently followed James and seen some excellent tweets about how abusers operate. Also a number of those in the field shared direct experiences on his Twitter, as did he iirc.

And then this.

He deleted twitter yesterday but left all his tweets up to see. As he points out, he's never said anything different to what the observer and EHRC have said.

I'm glad this was raised in parliament and people are working on it but it really shouldn't be like this.
