Guess who is keynote speaker at Lesbian Lives 2022?

You guessed it, the headline speaker at a lesbian conference is male born trans activist Susan Stryker. Depressingly predictable.

At least Stryker owns the fact that TRAs are aggressive and full of rage:

“May your rage inform your actions, and your actions transform you as you struggle to transform your world.”

Don't think I'll get a ticket.

More info about this person.

"One of the keynote speakers at a lesbian conference at the University of Cork is a male who identifies as a lesbian and has a history of campaigning against rape relief centres"

twitter.com/ripx4nutmeg/status/1485150457261707266?s=20

"S. Stryker, editor of Trans Studies Quarterly, discusses porn with a "precocious teenage lesbian", and dedicates the rest of his op-ed to drumming up more customers for PornHub.

"“Hey, what's that bulge you got there?"

Oh ffs. Headline speaker

ScrollingLeaves · 24/01/2022 12:25

From Wikepedia
“In one paper, "Transgender Studies: Queer Theory's Evil Twin" (2004), Stryker describes how transgender people are often marginalized within the queer community, and how the academic discipline of Queer Studies privileges specific narratives of sexual orientation over gender identity.[13]“

Apparently Stryker will have been presumed to know better than those I’ll-informed, privileged, female lesbians with their skewed narratives over their sexual orientation.

Irish universities are fked

SapphosRock · 24/01/2022 13:12

It gets worse...

On having a son.

'I was the sperm donor for a woman who got pregnant whom I happened to be legally married to.'

On her son knowing her as someone other than Susan Stryker.

'Yeah. I was his dad for like eight years.'

www.sfgate.com/magazine/amp/FaceTime-Susan-Stryker-2910545.php

I really struggle to see what common ground me and this 'lesbian' have that would warrant us attending the same lesbian conference.

Stryker seems to have had a guest post at Yale

How can a university of this stature have someone there who says something as nonsensical as
“Yeah. I was his dad for like eight years.”

Being someone’s father/producer of the sperm that made that person is a permanent state of being.

TurquoiseBaubles · 24/01/2022 14:53

It's Ireland. I expect no less.

TurquoiseBaubles · 24/01/2022 14:54

There is some discussion on the other speakers here:

SunnyDelite · 24/01/2022 16:15

It would be good if women boycotted this and the only attendees were trans lesbians.....

SapphosRock · 24/01/2022 16:29

It would be interesting if that happened. So many lesbians have reached the end of their tether now with the number of males identifying into lesbianism.

I can’t imagine Stryker will have much to say that’s relevant to lesbians. The pattern seems to be that those given a platform almost exclusively talk about “trans” issues. That, of course, is understandable, but I can’t imagine would be relevant to most lesbians. Fathering children, for example, is something no lesbian will ever do.

Anyway, only time will tell.

TurquoiseBaubles · 24/01/2022 19:13

I doubt there will be many old-fashioned lesbians there. It will be full of blue-haired, young, non-binary, queer people of both sexes.

The toilets will be fun. There will be no-one at all in the men's and queues a mile long in the non-men's.

Artichokeleaves · 24/01/2022 19:16

Yeah I think I'll wait for the female homosexual conference thanks. I don't think this lesbian one has any relevance to me or anything to offer.

Abhannmor · 24/01/2022 19:22

Disappointed but not surprised at McDermid. Then there are the Irish writers who perhaps need the exposure or are scared to make a fuss? Trying to be eh kind here.

VelvetChairGirl · 24/01/2022 19:39

So the organizers are not in possession of a dictionary and the entire event is going to be a sausagefest of straight males claiming they are lesbians because they wear dresses (as no actual lesbians will buy any tickets as it doesn't relate to them).

sounds like another business originally aimed at women thats going to woke itself into bankruptcy and then wonder what happened.

Abhannmor · 24/01/2022 19:47

Sausage Fest Grin

Leafstamp · 24/01/2022 19:48

@YourVagesty

Dystopian.
Totally this.
SapphosRock · 24/01/2022 19:52

Someone said (maybe on here?) that the organisers of these lesbian events have to keep up the facade that they are catering for female born lesbians. This is to titillate the male born lesbians who are the ones who have money to spend. It's quite a convincing conspiracy theory.

Artichokeleaves · 24/01/2022 20:00

What you end up with is a lesbian conference that is wholly centred around male people with some male-centric female people as staff.

Life is honestly too short for all this.
