Badger Maternity Notes app

It started so well: 'Woman's details' section (great) wavered with 'Is your gender the same as was assigned at birth?' (Yes or No) and crashed in a fire ball of flames with 'Preferred prouns' (No option to omit answering the question).

Prouns? pronouns!

Jesus.

I imagine the next upgrade of Euroking will be the same. Does Epic do this as well?

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2022 21:34

Proun cocktail was an overrated 80s dish.

USaYwHatNow · 16/01/2022 22:09

Annoying isn't it (pregnant midwife).

bishophaha · 16/01/2022 22:13

'Is your gender the same as was assigned at birth?

This wording can only make sense if they believe that gender and sex are in some way the same. Which is transphobic. Is there somewhere to complain about the transphobia implicit in their question?

JuneWind · 16/01/2022 22:16

I was recently given a login for Badger Notes and thought exactly the same.

I just left that section blank.

Midwife asked me at booking if my gender matches my sex assigned at birth to which I laughed and said something like surely that’s obvious at the moment. She thankfully gave me a knowing look as if she hates having to ask the question and just skipped on!

NitroNine · 16/01/2022 22:32

Clearly this is Grim On A Unicycle as well as Nonsense On Stilts (& I’m v sorry you’re having to deal with gender!woo rather than baby!!!WOO!!!); but mostly I am disappointed by absence of actual badgers from not only this post but seemingly also the app.

Yes, I confess, I was hoping for a tale of Badgers With Pronouns. What can I say, it’s past my bedtime & I need a giggle.

Please tell me that at the very least the app has tiny adorable [animated] badgers throughout? Really hope it doesn’t endlessly nag at you. That would be rubbish sort of badgerification of a maternity notes app.

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2022 22:44

@ArabellaScott

Why is it called Badger Notes?!
System is called Badgernet, comes from the supplier so nhs don't have a say in its name. System always breaks though! Our health board have dedicated staff just to deal with the uselessness of it all...
NitroNine · 17/01/2022 05:09

I have awoken from a very confused (& confusing) dream with THE ANSWER: it is the Sinister Work of J K Rowling (& her Hufflepuff minions)!

Also, seriously, Badgernet? That is just toying with those of us with a bent for anthropomorphising. Badgernet is blatantly an internet for mustelidae (even though the slogan says “by meles meles for meles meles”). You could make an adorable picture book, even.

Harlequin1088 · 17/01/2022 05:55

@NitroNine I can confirm it has a cute happy badger face on the front of the app screen when you log in.

@ArabellaScott Why it’s called BadgerNotes is anyone’s guess. My midwife had no idea when I asked her. I figured something like “BabyNotes” might be a more sensible name for an app dealing with pregnancy notes etc but nope the software developers clearly felt that a badger is better in that it’s clearly the first thing that springs to mind when you tell people you’re pregnant….isn’t it??

Anyway, my partner and I found it so funny that we’re now referring to our little one as Baby Badger until he’s born 😂

SpeverendRooner · 17/01/2022 07:53

I was curious about the name. The app is made by a company called CleverMed, whose Product Director is called Peter Badger - his LinkedIn page.

Product naming in IT has always struck me as weird, but naming a company's whole product after yourself personally strikes me as one of the weirder ones.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/01/2022 08:11

There was a great poster called Badger once. I think she was banned :(

EishetChayil · 17/01/2022 08:17

@Tempusfudgeit

Badger badger badger badger ... mushroom mushroom!

SNAAAAAAAKE!

NitroNine · 17/01/2022 11:50

@Harlequin1088
Thank you for letting me know & I hope that the Badgerlet arrives utterly undramatically following you both being happy & healthy & unstressed throughout pregnancy Smile

@SpeverendRooner
It’s even weirder for a man to name a pregnancy notes app for himself than, say, an exercise tracker or game or sock drawer organiser or recipe finder or something. There’s just a bit of “yes, yes, I, a man, get to be in charge of all these women doing a thing only women can do, & that they have been doing since our species began - but now I’m here to make sure they do it properly, hurrah for me!” Do seriously wonder if it was developed as a response to him seeing other apps (or just paper notes) & thinking he could do better. (And obviously needing his name on it - or, more charitably, it in fact being for Badger Jr &/or Mrs Badger.)
