Was won by a transwoman.

This is the second thread isn't it - first deleted.
Suffice to say that as usual it is always transwomen who get the glittering prizes and not transmen, there is no parity.

DisillusionedTech · 10/01/2022 20:32

So fed up of TW getting womens awards, its very prevalent in my industry

VelvetChairGirl · 10/01/2022 20:50

Reminds me of the nazi quote about first they come for x and no one spoke out because they were not x, then y, and z and then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me.

Sorry, just let me get this right. Are you comparing a trans woman winning an award to the genocide of 6 million jewish people?
VelvetChairGirl · 10/01/2022 21:59

twomumsonebump sorry let me get this right are you not counting the 5million none Jewish they killed? if not why not are you prejudice?

pay attention to the quote and the parallels, we can all play the accusation game, maybe next time dont try it on someone of Jewish heritage.

Storminamu · 10/01/2022 22:07

I suspect the winning all the awards thing is a phase.

EachandEveryone · 10/01/2022 22:07

I loved Pose and thought she was brilliant in it. Shes had all the treatment and surgery so I cant get wound up by this.

ScribblingPixie · 11/01/2022 09:42

There was a great post on the first thread which suggested changing categories so they're divided by age as well as/instead of sex. That would be so helpful in highlighting discrimination in Hollywood.

Helleofabore · 11/01/2022 10:24

So a male who finished transition just four years ago, had established themselves in an acting career prior to transitioning, who spent at least 25 odd years being a male won an award set up to recognise female talent.

Female’s who have had to deal with sexist discrimination their entire life. Not getting opportunities or taking opportunities that were for ‘boys’ or seen as being a ‘boy thing’ for example.

Females who then enter a career that is misogynistic (when did #metoo happen again, and what miracles have transformed the industry since?), toxic to females, who deal with overwhelming beauty discrimination, ageism, sexism and so on.

These female category awards are to progress females who have achieved great things in spite of the oppression they receive.

Tell us again, how long has this male been transitioned?

And is recognized by the industry as a transwoman, a MALE.

Yes, this person has suffered hardships unique to tranisitioning.

In what way has this male’s journey meant they should take a female achievement award that recognises the sexist, ageist and other ‘ist discrimination?

I am in awe at the people who think this is right. Have they either forgotten what female category awards are for, or are they people who don’t care because why? It doesn’t affect them? Like women in sport? Women in this industry don’t deserve recognition or protection?

Because…. A male star has your sympathy? They deserve sympathy because of ‘their journey’? Their extreme cosmetic surgery? Their extreme hormone treatment?

Helleofabore · 11/01/2022 10:57

Shes had all the treatment and surgery so I cant get wound up by this.

A male's extreme surgery and hormone treatment negates the lifetime of female oppression experienced by females.

I see this clearly for the sexist bollocks it is. Written on a feminist board.

Agreed, Gender identity isnt sex, the law needs to be layed down to stop the two getting conflated when it suits males.
Toseland · 11/01/2022 12:03

I don’t normally like to comment on people’s appearance but today I will.
We all know the ‘standards of beauty’ for women set by Hollywood. It’s so awful to see someone who doesn’t fit at all win in a category that if a woman looked like that they would not have even got a chance at the playing the role.
Also I think Calvin Klein had advertising recently with an obese trans person next to anorexic looking women.

I'm sure this person is a brilliant actor. That's beside the point. It's a male person with hormones and surgery getting an award in the 'best female' category.

Really. Well women make up 51% of the population so I don’t think we’re going anywhere. I don’t think you need be too concerned.
Helleofabore · 11/01/2022 12:35

Well women make up 51% of the population so I don’t think we’re going anywhere. I don’t think you need be too concerned.

So, because there are more females than transitioned males, awards meant for the progression of those females can go to transitioned males, and females cannot discuss the ramifications of that action?

That is the 'scale' argument right there.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/01/2022 12:46

Women have always been 51% of the population. And yet, our foremothers were systematically excluded from public life despite that. At one point women weren't allowed to act and all female stage roles were played by men.

Did you think that was because women only made up 5% of the population back then?

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 11/01/2022 13:09

Elizabeth Moss, Uzo Aduba, Christine Baranski, Jennifer Aniston are all incredible female actors and any one of them deserved to win. And instead it went to an effeminate male who should not have even been a contender. Ridiculous.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/01/2022 13:29

@EachandEveryone

I haven't had any treatment or surgery. Does that mean I can't be an actress, a woman?

If not, if you quite rightly think that's a ridiculous statement, then maybe you could explain the difference between me, a woman, and MJ, a transwoman.

Then maybe we can get on with saying no to men who want to take their part in breaking down women's rights.

Helleofabore · 11/01/2022 13:41

So, if there was a ‘best child actor’ award and a person had puberty suppressants and extreme cosmetic surgery, ok for a 25 year old to beat the children?

They’d be transage after all.

Good point. But you’re not suggesting we’re in danger of going back to the 16th century are you?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/01/2022 14:36

Funny you say that.

On another thread, just last night, an activist suggested we return to the cusp of the 17/18th century, when Catholics were banned from positions in public office, by banning unbelievers in the current religion of the day from jobs in the public sector/non-profits.
