So called feminists

Just had to rant really about so called feminists and feminist accounts saying shit like they support all women not just those with female anatomy. The stupidity makes me despair. Latest example attached.

Sometimes I challenge these people, but sometimes like today I don’t have the energy.

I literally worry for humanity at this point.

So called feminists

"Get over it" used in this way is basically saying "get over" homosexuality. Seeing as the phrase is lifted from the excellent Stonewall campaign from several years ago, I find it impossible not to make this association.

CorrBlimeyGG · 07/01/2022 17:33

You don't get to define what makes a feminist.

So yes, get over it.

bordermidgebite · 07/01/2022 17:37

Humanity will survive - sex somehow makes itself known

UltraVividLament · 07/01/2022 17:38

Who does get to define what makes a feminist? Is it men?

What is the point of having a term but then allowing anyone to ascribe any meaning to it?

Blackandwhitehorse · 07/01/2022 17:39

@CorrBlimeyGG the clues in the name - feminist 😂 But changing word definitions is a key feature of this movement so I’m not surprised.

@CorrBlimeyGG

You don't get to define what makes a feminist.

So yes, get over it.

We don't need to. We have these clever inventions called "dictionaries" which provide definitions to words for us.

feminist
/ˈfɛmənɪst/
noun
a person who supports feminism.

feminism
/ˈfɛmɪnɪz(ə)m/
noun
the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

woman
/ˈwʊmən/
noun
an adult female human being.

female
/ˈfiːmeɪl/
adjective
of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes.

Glassisalwaysgreener · 07/01/2022 18:03

Yes it is depressing.

I generally assume now that anyone with the word ‘feminist’ in their brand or bio is one of the men’s rights activists who think they’re feminists types.

Clues are usually the use of the word ‘intersectional’, pronouns, and tee shirts badges or tote bags with stupid slogans like the one pictured in pink.

Feminists fight for women. If you are fighting for the rights of males who think/wish they are female you are a men’s rights activist - literally the polar opposite of a feminist - and should own it.

SantaClawsServiette · 07/01/2022 18:14

"Get over it" was never a good campaign. Just a way to make people who agree feel smug and alienate the people's whose minds you'd like to change.

Linguini · 07/01/2022 18:24

How is the person in the picture signifying they're a feminist? Have they said they're one?

They are repeating a TRA mantra.

Linguini · 07/01/2022 18:25

No actual feminists aims to look like a drag queen.

OhHolyJesus · 07/01/2022 18:34

I avoid using the word. I think it is still widely understood to be about supporting and furthering women's and equal rights for women, but it can mean something entirely different, especially if you put 'intersectional' in front of it.

Using 'femalist' in its place does sort of make sense.

Blackandwhitehorse · 07/01/2022 19:43

@SantaClawsServiette - yes that phrase and ‘shout louder for those at the back’ are particularly patronising.

Blackandwhitehorse · 07/01/2022 19:44

@Linguini it was shared by a supposed feminist Instagram account fgrlsclub
