Green Party Women’s Ctte Candidates Vote

46 replies

WomanStillNotAFeeling · 05/01/2022 20:11

After the disappointment of Green Party leader vote I’ve hung on as member to this vote but I don’t know enough about the candidates to know who would actually support women and who would kowtow to the males identifying as women.

I would appreciate it if one of the long term Green Party MN members could provide some guidance

I've voted. Thanks for the tips, Gretel and Arabella. I live in hope of sanity returning.

There has never been a better time for the Green Party to build public support for environmental action. Instead our leaders look like a bunch of teenagers, scoring woke points for virtue signalling. So depressing for anyone who has been banging on about the environment for decades.

GreenGoude · 09/01/2022 22:03

Thank you so much, those who have mentioned Mandy Vere. Here is my pitch as candidate for Non-Portfolio on the Green Party Women committee:

And this is my candidate statement:

And thoroughly agree with @GreenGretel & @ArabellaScott about the other candidates!

You got my vote, Mandy! Good luck.

LoveMyBusPass · 10/01/2022 13:27

GreenGretel has done her homework. Well done. These are great candidates who all know what a woman is.

2Rebecca · 10/01/2022 13:39

I know Moira Dunworth as she used to be in the SGP and was very involved in the women's section when it was about women pre the TRA takeover of the party. I've never heard her speak about the TW issue but she was generally sensible and pleasant

@ArabellaScott

Rec from women whom I trust:

We hope you will take part in the election and vote on the basis of your own priorities. For anyone unsure who defends the sex-based rights of women, those speaking effectively at last night's hustings on this issue were:

Co-chair (2 positions):
Emma Bateman
Tina Rothery
Secretary:
Julia Lagoutte and Alex Geddis
Treasurer:
Nicola Watson
Non Portfolio Officers (3 positions):
Mandy Vere
Lucy Watson and Nicole Haydock
Zoe Hatch and Moira Dunworth

Elected - Emma Bateman, Ani Stafford Townshend; Julia Lagoutte & Alex Geddis; Elise Benjamin; Nicola Watson; Mandy Vere, Meg Shepherd Foster & Natalua Kubica, Lucy Watson & Nicole Haydock.

Iwishihadariver · 21/01/2022 13:15

And congrats to Emma Bateman and @Greengoude Mandy. Please come back and say hi again.

GreenGretel · 21/01/2022 17:22

Good result. 5 of the 8 posts won by women who understand the difference between sex and gender and when not to confuse the two.

GreenGoude · 21/01/2022 19:01

Oh hi! Thanks so much for all the support here. There's an awful lot to be done in the Green Party to establish it as a party which supports women as a sex, but this is a small start. Onwards, sisters!

WomanStillNotAFeeling · 22/01/2022 09:48

Slightly encouraged by the result, delighted you were elected GreenGoude

So what happens now, does the Green Women group have regular meetings? A constitution?

OP posts:
GreenGoude · 22/01/2022 10:40

I expect we'll hear very soon from the co-chairs, only one of whom (Emma) is gender critical, so there will be differences of opinion between them! There needs to be an EGM to make alterations to the constitution. Our priority is to alter the criteria for voting & standing for election to be for women only - rather than those who identify as a woman and/or are gender variant (!) as is currently the case. There will be a battle over that I expect. Yes, I certainly want us to have meetings, socials, events, speakers, discussions, bookclub etc. as soon as possible. We also need to rally support for two motions at Spring Conference, one to disaffiliate from Stonewall, and one to distinguish between sex and gender. And counter a "queerphobia" motion being brought.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 22/01/2022 10:54

I keep being about to leave the Green Party, then deciding to persist just a bit longer. So here I still am. Really glad we have five women on the committee willing to defend women’s rights and child safeguarding. Best wishes to you all, GreenGoude.

Haha, so was I (about to leave)! But really want to support the many women (and men) in the party - fantastic environmentalists all - who have been working so long on women's rights and safeguarding. I don't think people outside the party realise that the policies often go through with a tiny number voting at conference and don't reflect the views of many many members. But we won't give up!
ScreamingMeMe · 22/01/2022 12:09

I left. I might rejoin. I'd love to have a party I feel like I could actually vote for!

setthecontrols · 22/01/2022 12:15

@GreenGoude
Congratulations!
I voted for you on recommendation from here. So delighted that I can now vote againSmile

Feministwoman · 23/01/2022 23:39

I'm mostly pleased with the results and glad I didn't leave!

GreenGoude · 24/01/2022 12:26

Spring Conference is 4 - 6 March, entirely online and there are important motions to support - Disaffiliation from Stonewall; Ensuring Sex & Gender are Not Conflated. And to oppose - Queerphobia. Cost is £45; £25 low-waged; £10 unwaged. So do attend if you can! And would be great to see you all at Green Party Women events and EGM.

MidCenturyClegs · 25/01/2022 09:44

Great results for the Green Women's Committee for England and Wales but our Scottish counterparts aren't happy;

After the success for the GPW election, some useful suggestions just dropped into the inbox from Green Feminists on suggestions to vote for in prioritisation ballot by THURSDAY. This influences what motions get debated at Spring Conference in March.

One to keep out is a terrible definition of "queerphobia" which would see scores of women thrown out of the party for speaking about our needs and rights as a sex.
