My school has recognised sex!!!

Am a teacher in a secondary school. We've just had our refresher training, including the protected characteristics. And sex was there! Gender reassignment, sexual orientation and sex. It was read out, not just written down. This is a change from past years, where it has just been gender that has been mentioned.

It's a small step, but I was so pleased to see it. I was really tense, waiting for them to reach the protected characteristics section, wondering if this year they would actually acknowledge sex, or, if they didn't, was I brave enough to speak up?

My dc’s school uses gender, and also states gender when quoting the relevant EA categories (which they’ve taken from the local authority’s info).
I’ve emailed both the school and the LA to no avail.

It was the very first thing in a two day inset series. Felt like a significant move, as sex had been omitted in previous training

That's good.

This prompted me to have a look at the equlity policies of my large, national employer.
They refer to sex as a protected characteristic in the top of the EO doc then revert to gender or 'sex (gender)' - how very coy! - for the rest of the document & other policies.

I suspect they've been stonewalled by proxy as we've recently been taken over by an even bigger fish that most definitely has.
