Not sure if this is thread worthy or not but I’ve noticed lots of little articles popping up this week. I read The Times, Torygraph & NYT most days & lately it feels like the tide is on the turn.

P Patel & Trans staff policy change

I hope so. I think they're making it turn on themselves tbh by making so many demands and treating actual women as beneath them.

JellySaurus · 03/01/2022 15:58

That's unclear. Does it mean that they only record people's sex, or that they only record gender-feelz?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2022 16:28

I'm not 100% sure this is a good thing though. The published percentage of trans people working for the BBC relative to the general population was illuminating.

CorrBlimeyGG · 03/01/2022 16:31

Priti Patel being exclusionary is surely not a surprise to anyone. Do you want to be associated with such a hateful woman?

Imnobody4 · 03/01/2022 16:34

I saw this the other day and tried to look up the original document. Not sure it's an intentional improvement. It does say LGB but in small print says the system isn't set up for sexual identity and this is being looked at, see definitions but I couldn't see any.
At the time of collecting this data, The Home Office’s Adelphi system only recorded people as either “Heterosexual, Straight” or “LGB”. The methodology for collecting data on sexual identity has been revised, see definitions for further detail.

It also mixes up gender and sex.
relevant legal obligations, including anti-discrimination legislation regarding age, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion and belief and disability.

I fear it's the usual dog's breakfast. I'm also a bit concerned the Telegraph and the Times are getting a bit click baity.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/01/2022 16:43

Funny how some posters can’t wait to rush in clutching their pearls going “OMG how can you bear to be associated with such a terrible person” whenever a Tory is GC

But seem more than happy to be on the same side as men who send death threats, rape threats, pictures of baseball hats wrapped in barbed wire & who purposely covered JKR thread asking for children to
Send in drawings with porn.

Abitofalark · 03/01/2022 17:29

We don't even know which newspaper it's from. The article refers to the methodology for collecting data on sexual identity. What does that mean? Sexual orientation or sex?

Note the word 'identity' being used here - just as one keeps being asked by administrators not whether you are something or other but "Do you identify as...?"

Are they trying to slip in a redefinition of something to make it as if it means not something you are but something you 'identify as' and hey presto! it becomes your 'identity'. Just like that.

The quotation posted by Imnobody4 uses the term gender, in place of sex presumably, but also uses sexual orientation.

As opposed Stonewall who are keen to associate with the homophobic dictators of Qatar?
ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2022 18:23

Yesterday's Sunday Times, part of the Atticus column.

It's about time that everyone starts to remove the T+ from the LGB as the T+ are about feelings whilst LGB are sexual orientations and they have nothing in common with each other

Abitofalark · 03/01/2022 18:42

Thank you, Errol.

Sexual attraction is also a feeling.
DdraigGoch · 03/01/2022 18:48

Wasn't it the Home Office who changed toilets to "gender neutral" which had the predictable result of female staff going to a different building to use the women's toilets there?

Good point.
catzwhiskas · 03/01/2022 18:54

I don’t remember how the T got added without our consent. Must have been about 2002 but it’s become the norm. I still don’t consent.

I sometimes think we need to make it easier for people who tie themselves in knots over sex and gender.

Would your preferred sexual partner be
A) The same sex as you
B) the opposite sex to you
C) either
D) neither

Were you born female or male?

Do you have a GRC ?

AnneElliott · 03/01/2022 19:30

There are some gender neutral toilets in the Hone Office but they also have single sex ones as well.

timeisnotaline · 04/01/2022 09:39

I have no issues with them recording the number of trans people on staff- data is insight. My issue is with not recording critical info like sex.

Lovelyricepudding · 04/01/2022 09:52

If it is recording for their PSED then they would need to be recorded separately.
