It makes for interesting reading.

As far as I can make out Graham Norton called Eddie ‘he’.

A few people are screaming ‘cancel’ but most are saying ‘but he is a he’.

Agree too CheeseMmmm

CheeseMmmm · 04/01/2022 00:40

Brave I don't see it as not arsed-

He's rewritten his years that he talked about, joked about being a transvestite. That he got praise and shit for, and also a lot of media attention and public as well, as was unusual interesting made him stand out.

As being transgender all along. That's what over a decade, over two decades? Of a central part of his history rewritten.

So says been out as trans since 1985. Identity all along gender fluid (not transvestite).

Dec 20 stated pronouns she/her. Even though gender fluid and having 'boy mode' and 'girl mode'.
Big reaction saying... Eh?!!

Ei says calm down have a cup of tea or something.
Then says actually pronouns don't mind.

Or something.

The modes thing is apparently like a superhero power.

And given that means EI can get loads of publicity media inches etc presumably some paid speaking stuff etc due to talking about girl mode, and 35 years being trans.

Can act male roles etc when suits.

And something I saw a couple years back or so. On TV about charity/ ambassador type visit to country needing help EI in tent chatting to people lived there type thing.

Couldn't help but notice had opted for boy mode 100% when in country vv patriarchal, women girls various shit because of it, iirc the women were fully veiled. Certainly there was something that I just immediately thought well not interested in girl mode when the women are subject to various restrictions in freedom, now there's a surprise..

So for EI. can see why superpower. Gets to keep man stuff when wants to, and still can be girl mode when likes and that means media attention and obv EI enjoys that mode as well..

@DropYourSword

It’s like the people who say that you should say happy holidays not happy Christmas because it upsets Muslims, where no Muslim has ever expressed that they are upset by that.

Has anyone actually ever come across anyone who’s said that though. Isn’t it just a big myth?! I’ve heard for the past few decades plenty of people who moan “you “can’t say Christmas anymore” and yet I’ve never ever seen any proof anytime has ever been offended by it!

I think it’s more of a US thing. And it seems to be more Jewish Americans who don’t like being wished a Happy Christmas than Muslim Americans, though of course that might just be because Jewish Americans were a more visible minority than Muslim Americans up until fairly recently.

AskAManager (who is Jewish American) definitely has an issue with Christmas stuff at work as she feels it is shoving Christianity down non-Christians’ throats. Of course American Christianity is often a lot more aggressive than UK Christianity, so possibly she is right. I’ve yet to meet anyone in the UK who objects to the office manager putting fairy lights up in reception.

CheeseMmmm · 04/01/2022 01:56

Different cultures very much so.
USA the usual is happy holidays isn't it.
And with Thanksgiving so close maybe Xmas not seen same as here? That's a guess.

Agree USA Christianity, faith just totally different.

Eg I saw USA chap few years back being interviewed on a UK prog.

He said blah blah and so I prayed and the lord answered or similar. Then... Pause where he was clearly expecting audience reaction and instead got.. zero.

I mean just different.

The thing on here I've seen a reasonable number of times where USA posters say. You can't use this word, that phrase etc. When it's totally different here. And that always seems to insistence should not be said in UK. That irritates me.

MuthaFunka61 · 04/01/2022 02:06

Agreed.

Stating that lesbians look like men is homophobic.

HTH

TameDucksAtChatsworth · 04/01/2022 02:11

Was Eddie Izzard born with a cock and balls?

If 'Yes' then he is a man

If 'No' then he is a woman.

I do hope that helps the confused who don't know their arse from their elbow or a penis from a vagina.

CheeseMmmm · 04/01/2022 04:25

Yes that really made my jaw drop.

Clare B has had so much shit like that. For years.

To see it on fwr thread on predominantly female site, and likely a woman said it.

I honestly haven't heard the old. Lesbian looks like a man thing IRL in years!

And i heard it a lot in 80s 90s mainly from men a fair bit, sometimes women as well.

But to me it feels even more jarring as the whole lesbian looks like a man, thinks she's a man, thing IME is a predominantly bloke comment. And delivered with a vv unpleasant mix of sexism and hierarchy.

I seem to remember that horse race bookie man said something that made the news...

waterlego · 04/01/2022 11:18

I can’t find it now, but I saw a pair of Tweets the other day that really made me laugh as they demonstrated so perfectly what happens when you find yourself sucked into a purity spiral.

A bloke had Tweeted a chastisement of Graham Norton for misgendering EI (despite the fact that EI is on record as having said he doesn’t mind what pronouns people use) and then followed it up with a Tweet saying that he doesn’t support EI because EI supported JKR. Just tying himself up in knots basically 😆

Abitofalark · 04/01/2022 11:25

Agree with you, CheeseMmmm. There is no similarity between Clare Balding and Eddie Izzard in the first place so what else can that be but a nasty insinuation and slur?
Also your analysis of Izzard's antics is spot on.

Yes, this is becoming common with wokey blokeys isn't it? Like when Caitlyn Jenner's son referred to Caitlyn as his 'father' and used male pronouns. Men on Twitter attacked him even thou Caitlyn refers to being their 'father' and says that they are male and a trans woman, not a woman. It is bizarre but quite funny.
BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 04/01/2022 12:08

Is this Eddie who was scared out of a women's toilet by two young girls, but is currently able to play male roles on TV because money??

Come the fuck on.

Hoppinggreen · 04/01/2022 12:35

So Eddie can refer to himself as He but nobody else can?

PriamFarrl · 04/01/2022 16:04

@Hoppinggreen

So Eddie can refer to himself as He but nobody else can?
As I understand it Eddie has not passed comment on being referred to as he. The only people who have vocalised being offended are other people.
OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 04/01/2022 16:05

Yes that’s what I mean.
These offended people are upset GN used “He” but if Eddie himself does it then it doesn’t matter.
Surely GN using the same pronouns Eddie does is fine?
I’m confused

VelvetChairGirl · 04/01/2022 16:50

@Seemslikeagoodidea

Eddie Izzard was a comedian, but now he's just a joke. Takes himself far too seriously and doesn't realise what a bore he has become.
Become? always was a bore.
MuthaFunka61 · 05/01/2022 08:10

It really is the height of sexism.

Lesbians must be like men,as only men have the right to and authority over women's bodies.

I'd hoped after all the work that's been done that homophobia had lessened, but it only applies to gay men (who're obviously fab) Hmm

MuthaFunka61 · 05/01/2022 08:12

My quote function isn't working. The above is in response to @CheeseMmmm & @Abitofalark

KenDodd · 05/01/2022 08:43

I wonder what would happen if EI was offered a knighthood (he has done brilliant charity fundraising)? Would he then insist he was made a Dame instead or be happy to embrace Sir. Also, be interesting if he had children and tried to call himself their mother. I actually really like some of what EI has done, including the cross dressing. I remember in the past he was in no doubt or denial about what sex he was but insisted that there was no reason why he could dress however he wanted. I wonder actually if he is also a victim of the 'cult of gender' EI is an intelligent man, he knows sex is real, in recent years we have had this blanket of gender laying over the top of it though and lots of people are very confused.

WakeUpLockie · 05/01/2022 08:57

I wonder if Ed realises his ultimate male privilege of opting in and out of whichever sex when it benefits him. I'd hope so but I doubt it - if he did then why would he still do it. Maybe a commentary on the absurdity of it all, but in that case he needs to be more overt about it as clearly people aren't getting it.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/01/2022 16:27

James Nesbitt referred to Eddie as ‘she’ on R4 this morning.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 10/01/2022 18:44

James Nesbit liked something that I put on FB during the Action Aid furore, about women in the third world being unable to identify out of child marriage,FGM,ect.
