You are a legend! Just wanted to say Happy New Year to you if you're on here.

(Apologies if there's already a thread? Had a look but couldn't see one. Will delete this one if I've missed it.)

Amazing clip of Ulrike, so brave, consistent and articulate. Love how you stood your ground no matter what rubbish was thrown at you. You stayed on message girl , woman , and are an inspiration to the rest of us.

Dandelionsss · 01/01/2022 12:53

Ulrike you were amazing, thank you so much. What a fantastic argument you put forward, I'm so grateful to you for tolerating that snivelling prat long enough to put your point across Flowers

ReeseWitherfork · 01/01/2022 12:55

Amazing clip @UlrikeinYork - thank you for being so articulate! It's so damn frustrating that he just wouldn't listen or move forward the conversation. And even more frustrating that they cut the bit of the clip where you say you actively want a solution that suits everybody.
In that clip they’ve cut off my starting bit: that we can only move forward if we stop just saying ‘you’re wrong & that’s offensive’, we need to find a way to acknowledge & respect both sex and gender identity and then we can decide which matters where

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 01/01/2022 12:56

Shrill is a misogynistic term to shut down passionate, opinionated women. I’m not having it.

You were phenomenal.

Gastonia · 01/01/2022 13:04

Yay! You were great!!!
James Max not so impressive Grin

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/01/2022 13:07

The ripple effect of your comments are huge, Ulrike.

I have been sent it by two separate people, both of whom have been gradually peaking over the last year. You got them right over the hump.

I don't expect that they are alone. Thank you.

JoodyBlue · 01/01/2022 13:14

Also to say that the points you made about the cycle of womanhood from puberty to post menopause with child bearing along the way is so important. Young women can't see the beauty of the whole cycle as it is impossible to know what one is missing until one works through the whole thing. Womanhood is beautiful, quite likely the life cycle of males is also beautiful. We need to be able to appreciate the amazingness of our bodies I feel and learn to allow people to be who they are in them, without commodification. I think that was kind of what you said. It is what I think for sure.

Igmum · 01/01/2022 13:14

Ulrike you were great! Here's to a GC 2022 ThanksGrin

frazzled1 · 01/01/2022 13:14

Certainly rattled India's cage. Usual hyperbole, middle aged bigots blah blah plus really really offensive use of 'low IQ'. Horrible.

Wow! Tell us you’re a misogynistic male without telling us you’re a misogynistic male, India.

IW is completely and utterly delusional

Did you see what they said about Debbie Hayton??

Thank you @UlrikeinYork ThanksCake

BunnyBerries · 01/01/2022 14:08

You were fabulous Ulrike.
Honestly I considered how to phone in and express it all, but once I had heard you (the whole thing on the radio site) I simply thought JOB - DONE. I couldn't have put it as well as you.

You were straight forwardly eloquent, so James Max had no come backs; telling you that some people don't agree with you is in no way presenting any 'argument'. It's just him being argumental. You smashed it.

Thank you also for showing the real passion and strength of feeling that women have on this that we don't 'identify' we simply are our sex and need this acknowledged, while showing compassion and respect for others that do feel they have or need a gender identity. Conflating the two helps no one.

As you made me realise that there is not just hope, it is actually possible to really have this debate with real people.

Happy New Year!

anotherchocolate · 01/01/2022 14:09

You were a joy to listen to, Ulrike! You didn't back down once even when he was trying to interrupt you.

The thing I love about this movement is how many wonderfully strong women there are speaking their mind. A huge inspiration to this, uh, woman under 35... Hmm

anotherchocolate · 01/01/2022 14:12

Also the classic "no one's trying to gaslight you" while trying to gaslight you live on air...

FemaleAndLearning · 01/01/2022 14:13

Not shrill at all, determined.

Why is 'it's complicated used'? Is it just a way to shut down the conversation because it really is not complicated. I hear lots of broadcasters use this frame.

LightningJenny · 01/01/2022 14:17

@Shmithecat2 I reported that. I was blocked around the same time so I don't know if any action has been taken. Absolutely appalling. People have been permanently banned for far less.

FlowerArranger · 01/01/2022 14:18

@UlrikeinYork

I didn’t! I became shrill.. I’d been listening to his piece with Kellie-Jay the day before and then the one with Debbie Hayton and his ramblings in between - and I knew exactly what I wanted to get across. In that clip they’ve cut off my starting bit: that we can only move forward if we stop just saying ‘you’re wrong & that’s offensive’, we need to find a way to acknowledge & respect both sex and gender identity and then we can decide which matters where (I have some firm opinions on this of course but let’s have that debate, bring it on!)
On behalf of real, natural born women everywhere: thank you!
Waftypants · 01/01/2022 14:21

A clear example of mansplaining and gaslighting. Well done Ulrike, you did indeed nail it. Gosh that man is tiresome.

Potato25 · 01/01/2022 14:24

Excellent work.

JoodyBlue · 01/01/2022 14:29

"Quit with the gaslighting" has now entered my lexicon Grin

IW blocked me a long time ago - I'd never even responded to a tweet of theirs. I'm assuming they looked at my follow list and decided to head me off at the pass...
