You are a legend! Just wanted to say Happy New Year to you if you're on here.

(Apologies if there's already a thread? Had a look but couldn't see one. Will delete this one if I've missed it.)

Well done Ulrike Flowers

Artichokeleaves · 01/01/2022 11:35

Bravo Ulrike! Flowers

Igneococcus · 01/01/2022 11:35

Awesome, Ulrika, how did you keep so calm?

This is a brilliant response on Twitter.

This is amazing!!!!
UlrikeinYork · 01/01/2022 11:44

I didn’t! I became shrill..
I’d been listening to his piece with Kellie-Jay the day before and then the one with Debbie Hayton and his ramblings in between - and I knew exactly what I wanted to get across.
In that clip they’ve cut off my starting bit: that we can only move forward if we stop just saying ‘you’re wrong & that’s offensive’, we need to find a way to acknowledge & respect both sex and gender identity and then we can decide which matters where (I have some firm opinions on this of course but let’s have that debate, bring it on!)

shewillhaveherway · 01/01/2022 11:48

It was a great phone call @UlrikeinYork you were incredibly articulate and effective.

Helleofabore · 01/01/2022 11:51

I didn’t! I became shrill..

In other words you were persistent!! You were amazing! You maintained your coherent message despite feeling you had to raise your voice to be heard when a misogynist male talked over the top of and interrupted you.

Again, men using biological reactions to denigrate women. It is age old and you, Ulrike, persisted. And made him look like an uninformed bully.

More FlowersCakeBrewGin for you!!!

And I heard it on their catch up so I heard all your call.

Men hate women who remain on message despite their me-railing and disruption!!

SufferingJet · 01/01/2022 11:54

@UlrikeinYork thank you for being so eloquent and persistent. It's so frustrating when such reasonable positions are dismissed outright as being 'offensive' and therefore unworthy of debate.

ThanksThanksThanks

This Thanks how far old Wolf Fleece has fallen.

BigBobBoots · 01/01/2022 11:56

Amazing Ulrike. So clear.
Being shrill shouldn't negate the message.
Another misogynistic trope that we have to swim against when getting our point across on any subject.

beastlyslumber · 01/01/2022 11:56

You weren't shrill ulrike. You were persistent, courageous, insistent and righteous! If a man wants to call that shrill, he can. Let him comfort himself with lies. We know what we heard!

Heruka · 01/01/2022 12:09

Definitely agree you were not shrill. That’s the kind of thing I’d tell myself too (because we are women and have been oppressed for centuries, like you said) but you were passionate and persistent about how important this is, because it is. I wish I could be more like you, every time women like you do this it helps embolden the rest of us. Thank you and remember to pat yourself on the back!!

Legoninjago1 · 01/01/2022 12:12

No you weren't shrill. You sounded like a WOMAN !

IcedCoffeeMilkshake · 01/01/2022 12:15

Loving this thread. :)

CorvusPurpureus · 01/01/2022 12:18

Fabulous work Ulrike Flowers

AutumnSquill · 01/01/2022 12:22

You are amazing, Ulrike. Thank you for speaking up so strongly for reality, to yet another man who just doesn't listen to women.

Clymene · 01/01/2022 12:25

You were amazing Ulrike. So articulate and clear.

Thank you Thanks and happy new year

CovidisaThiefofJoyandcandoone · 01/01/2022 12:27

I was moved by what you said about first period to menopause.

sansucre · 01/01/2022 12:31

Ulrike, you are magnificent Flowers

Snugglepumpkin · 01/01/2022 12:33

You were awesome Ulrike.

Shrill is just another word to stop women when they are impassioned & their voices show this.
You were on fire & you were right.

Great job :-)

frazzled1 · 01/01/2022 12:36

Ulrike you absolutely rock! Flowers Flowers Thank you for speaking up for women. Loved it when you mentioned periods, childbirth, fibroids, menopause as part of your female experience (not 'identity') - JM looked pretty uncomfortable at that Grin. No TW will EVER go through ANY of these experiences, why is it so hard to grasp how central they are to our lives...

FriteFuaite · 01/01/2022 12:37

@UlrikeinYork

Thank you all so much for your feedback, it means the world to me! Amazingly I’ve had next to no abuse even on twitter (well India Willoughby’s not happy) - I really think we’re turning a corner!
You are amazing, and you've given me the courage to speak up more about this. It's not complicated at all when you explain it.
