Ah bugger! Forgot to vote Grin

WarOnWoman · 31/12/2021 18:46

Academic of the Year - Kathleen Stock

Tireless Campaigner - Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull (Posie Parker)
Wherever she goes she has impact.

Campaign Group - For Women Scotland

Freedom of Speech - Maya Forstater

(Her)successful case changed the course of the narrative forever. She fits several categories, but I think freedom of speech would be the most appropriate given the outcome of the case.

Science, Medicine and Health - Dr Emma Hilton

Innovation and Inspiration in STEM - Professor Sarah Gilbert

Law, Policy & Politics - Baroness Emma Nicholson

Law, Policy & Politics (Scotland) - Joanna Cherry

Writing and Journalism - Helen Joyce

Media and Entertainment - Emma Barnett
For that interview with Nancy.

Congratulations to all Flowers Flowers Flowers. Especially pleased with For Women Scotland.

(Will be back later with the rest.)

SunflowersInTheShade · 31/12/2021 21:04

Ahh. Forgot to vote too! But looks like a wonderful list!

WarOnWoman · 31/12/2021 21:22

Sport - Joint Winners Martina, Linda Blade, Sarah Robles (Hopefully no one nominated has been missed out)

International - The women of Afghanistan
Both those who escaped, and those who are having to live under the new regime.

Lifetime Achievement - Joint Winners: Pragna Patel and Bell Hooks

Courage Calls to Courage Award - For Outstanding Courage - J K Rowling
She persisted.
Her reach is huge and I hope that the backlash she still receives and the conflict it causes in her younger fans ("I'm supposed to hate her but she created these characters I grew with and identified with") has an upside in forcing them to question the narrative and think critically about what is happening, what the agenda is and who is controlling it.

Additional Awards

FWR Contributors - @TingelAngel, @Artichokeleaves, @ArabellaScott (I recognise your posts and they are always informative and well thought out), @IAmSarah (for bravery in speaking out about her experience)

Women working in exceptional times- @TurquoiseBaubles daughter and other countless women like her :
I'm nominating my daughter as an example of an ordinary nurse who has been dealt the most extraordinary life for the last two years. As a newly qualified nurse working on a Covid ward in London she told me the other day that she calculated that she had overseen the deaths (and subsequent laying out, washing, and putting in body bags sad) of 300 people in body bags in her first year of nursing . No-one will ever know her name, or the names of all the hundreds of nurses and health care assistants (mostly women) that did similar.

What a brilliant list of amazing women! Thanks

Fenlandia · 31/12/2021 21:38

Thank you OP. So many sheroes in every category I salute you all

Soontobe60 · 31/12/2021 21:45

At the start of 2021, I’d only heard of a couple of these women / groups. I now know them all through the work they do for women. Lockdown does have some positives!

GiveOverIrene · 31/12/2021 21:50

I may have drunk a few snowballs this evening, but this has brought a tear to my eye. Wonderful stuff, and thanks for facilitating.

CatNamedEaster · 31/12/2021 22:08

Great list. I too have learned a huge amount from this board over the last so am thankful to everyone who has posted, argued and linked to more info. I almost never post on here as I feel like a kid in a uni staff room sometimes but I lurk and learn.

Also chuffed to be quoted in the results for JK above.GrinBlush

Here's to me being a bit braver and trying to discuss this IRL in 2022.

Voice0fReason · 31/12/2021 22:18

Such amazing women

Waitwhat23 · 31/12/2021 22:21

Brilliant list - thank you for doing this.

As a Scottish woman, I am particularly indebted to both Joanna Cherry and For Women Scotland for bringing a spark of hope to the situation here.

Barbarantia · 31/12/2021 22:32

Women working in exceptional times-@TurquoiseBaubles daughter and other countless women like her : I'm nominating my daughter as an example of an ordinary nurse who has been dealt the most extraordinary life for the last two years. And I'm crying myself into the new year. That was beautiful to read.

Heruka · 31/12/2021 22:36

Fantastic list!

SingingSands · 31/12/2021 22:42

I raise my glass to all the women listed, those whose names we know and those we do not. Wine
