Love it! I want one. (although I am actually vaccinated).

It's no stupider than the people who think vaccines are a conspiracy.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 21/12/2021 13:13

I think things like this are more helpful to TRA's as it makes it look to the outside world, that people are completely taking the piss, rather than putting reasoned arguments forward as to why gender ideology is harmful.

I agree. Stick to the facts, of which there are many. Bringing vaccinations, like Brexit, a polarising issue, is adding an unnecessary tribal element to it. We're in the mess we're in partly due to kneejerk tribalism.

Agreed

Doubletoilandtrouble · 21/12/2021 14:06

I am not sure. Maybe there is a spectrum where if you had a flu jab and been in contact with someone who had Covid you are very close to being vaccinated?

Also, maybe this person really deeply feel that they are vaccinated and that is their lived experience?

I respect their feeling that they really are considering themselves as vaccinated - as long as they stay out of spaces/proximity to vulnerable etc which only are for objectively vaccinated people.

JellySaurus · 21/12/2021 14:57

It's the TRAs that are taking the piss.

I think mockery of silly ideas is really powerful. If we accept that you must engage seriously with the idea that people can change reality with their feelings we give up a lot of ground.

There are certainly some people who can't distinguish between hatred for a person and mocking an idea but I feel that's their problem. Not wanting to cause offence is what got us here.

Rainbowlaceshelp · 21/12/2021 15:33

Yes, it is the TRAs that are taking the piss.

It is virtually impossible anyway to defeat absurd propositions with 'reason', it's like turning up to a gunfight with a stick - they clearly don't care about facts therefore this beast cannot be defeated by those means.

It also straddles the culture war issues because its clearly a joke - trans activism on one side and anti vax on the other. The joke here is as much on anti vaxxers.

I disagree.

Humour has a way of sticking, in a way that reasoned arguments just can't. It's why satire is so effective. Reasoned arguments can be batted off by the True Believers of The Faith, but jokes fly in under the radar and land where the reasoned arguments cannot reach.

And that particular joke on the t-shirt is actually pretty damned effective. I think people will automatically see that passing yourself off as vaccinated when you're not could be very harmful. It reinforces that 'I identify as' = 'I'm not'. And as for taking the piss, I'd say it points out just exactly who is taking the piss.

Jokes work.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 21/12/2021 15:59

Jokes work

Funny ones do, I agree - but the 'I identify as an attack helicopter' crap 'jokes', just make people who might have engaged, just totally disengage.

TRA ideology is ridiculous. In some circumstances it's necessary to take it seriously in order to argue against it. But there's also room for laughing at it too.

EishetChayil · 21/12/2021 18:10

Idiotic.
