Apologies for the rag:

For her body of work as well as strong signal of a turning tide - possibly?
Hopeful.

And yes - another powerful voice in the HoL
🤞

That would be great for balance in the HoL against Lord Cashman and Lady Hunt wouldn't it?

I would love for her to get one

everythingcrossed · 20/12/2021 09:56

Sounds unlikely. I like the way the DM is essentially blaming Carrie if it doesn't happen Hmm.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 20/12/2021 09:59

That would be great. She deserves every wonderful thing that could possibly happen to her after what she has gone through.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/12/2021 10:00

She would be a tremendous asset with her clear thinking, incisive mind and ability to see both sides. That’s completely aside from any culture war issues- she would be good at doing what the House of Lords is supposed to do.

Rightsraptor · 20/12/2021 10:36

I'm not sure that Ruth Hunt has done anything at all since she's been in the HoL - I've read here that she hasn't been the mouthpiece of the trans movement, or even the LGB movement, since she's been there.

And that wretched Carrie should not be having any political influence whatsoever.

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/12/2021 10:38

That would be brilliant.

And don’t apologise for linking to the Mail, they’ve been tireless highlighting issues like this for ages and bringing sunlight to insanity.

RoyalCorgi · 20/12/2021 10:38

A little request: can people stop apologising for linking to the Daily Mail? Its reporting on this issue has been excellent for a long time. It was one of the first to highlight the madness of what's going on. If you're going to apologise, save it for the Independent, which is happy to publish an article libelling JK Rowling written by a man who has repeatedly expressed sympathy for paedophiles.

Imnobody4 · 20/12/2021 11:42

Congrats to Harry. This is wonderful news.

I agree. I am weary of the "apologies for linking to The Wail" nonsense.

@Imnobody4 thanks for posting though, not sure i'd've seen it otherwise
AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 20/12/2021 12:17

Huzzah for Harry!

DaisiesandButtercups · 20/12/2021 13:30

What a wonderful New Year Present this would be, to have Dr Stock’s clear thinking, clear speaking, compassionate and rational contributions in the House of Lords!

[quote DoubleTweenQueen]Apologies for the rag:

If you’re going to sneer at and discredit the publication why should I give any credence to the article? In fact I’ve decided not to bother even reading it now. You can’t expect people to take articles seriously while simultaneously telling them the publication is a rag that needs to be apologised for linking to.

I’ve seen this happening at lot to be honest. I think it might be a ‘left wing purity’ thing if that makes any sense. Which is ironic really because left wing purity thinking got us here much as people deny it. Apologies if that doesn’t make much sense but I don’t know how else to describe it.

It happens all the time though. People feeling the need to justify going on GB News. People cheering on Conservative MPs whilst sneering at their party at the same time.

To be honest I think it’s gotten to the point now where I think conservative MPs should just stop talking about this issue as many of the people who care about this don’t seem to like the conservatives very much so it’s not like they’ll gain any voters or get any thanks. I also think GB News shouldn’t invite anyone back who has sneered at the channel or felt the need to justify going on it.

And I’d prefer it if the daily mail stopped publishing pieces like this too and left these sorts of articles for the guardian.

DoubleTweenQueen · 20/12/2021 14:17

@Righteedo77

It’s notoriety is fairly legendary. It's hardly celebrated as a paragon of journalistic integrity.

It’s a passing comment of a rumour, not an article, and unlikely to be found in other places.

Your black & white world must be comforting.

I think Righteedo has a point though. There is nearly always an apology attached when people share a story from the Mail even when it is a very well researched and written article. I’m grateful that the Mail and the Times (and many Tory MPs) have attempted to tackle the issues relating to this debate (and freedom to speak about them) because the BBC and the Guardian (and the majority of Labour MPs) have done next to f all (and worse than f all in some cases)

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 20/12/2021 16:57

You'll wait a very long time before The Guardian publishes an article like the one The Daily Mail published. The Mail, like it or not, has been very bold in reporting on women's rights while The Guardian has done everything it can not to. For example, there was an article today from everyone favourite sociology professor, Finn Whatsit, whining that people are being mean to Stonewall for defending trans rights.

DoubleTweenQueen · 20/12/2021 18:08

I’ll leave you to your left-wing/right-wing presumptions.

I’m content with the rumour.
