@BraveBananaBadge

I've tried to follow this and don't want to get deleted... I've heard of the complainant before, but...

Is literally all this person done to consider themselves 'trans' changed pronouns from he to they? It's no more than that from what I can see?

Yep - that's it. That's why Self ID is such an issue (along with invasion of women's spaces etc).

Maya is great.

littlbrowndog · 20/12/2021 11:35

But what is more shocking is the the scouts took 2 years to investigate

After Murray complained about maya.

Really shocking the way they behaved towards maya

VestofAbsurdity · 20/12/2021 11:37

The DM article is epic - bearded with an accompanying picture, leaving no room for doubt for their readers.

Shedmistress · 20/12/2021 11:38

I do believe that the complainant did wear glittery wellies and some nail varnish. On that basis he could call himself TRANS and changed his pronouns.

KittenKong · 20/12/2021 11:55

I’ve never worn either in my entire life? What nonsense is this?

2 years.

to investigate.

I guess they were just waiting for the tide to look as if it was turning and as it was Maya, had to provress it, after her case was won.

Honestly though, why aren't people throwing this nonsense in the bin where it belongs?

KittenKong · 20/12/2021 13:50

Girl guides next then?

littlbrowndog · 20/12/2021 15:52

Maya writing about it and the scout leadership

Yay, that'll teach a charity organisation that looks after young people! These victories against children's charities are stacking up no end. Yay!

NotBadConsidering · 22/12/2021 06:22

Oh, hello DOM, haven’t seen you in the Times’ comments recently. For the Scouts to look after young people properly then safeguarding needs to be discussed with accuracy around the sex of its leaders, which is what triggered the whole debacle in the first place. Thankfully Maya has prevailed to allow these discussions to take place, and as a result yes, they will be able to look after young people for the better as a result.

HTH.

Are children's charities not to be criticised if they get safeguarding wrong,? Should we really have continued to ignore all the children who came forward as adults to tell us of the abuses they suffered at the hands of certain children's charities, including the Scouts; abuses which resulted in the safeguarding policies established for such organisations of today? Policies which outline suitable behaviour expected of leaders ?

In this case it was really an own goal though, wasn't it? If they'd just looked at the evidence properly in the first place the scouts could have avoided this episode, embarrassing to them and distressing to Maya Forstater. And not the sort of attention Gregor Murray wanted either, I would guess.

Are you suggesting children's charities should not be subject any to scrutiny Hmm
RoyalCorgi · 22/12/2021 10:57

Are you suggesting children's charities should not be subject any to scrutiny

That's exactly what Disgusted is suggesting.

And let's have a think - who benefits, exactly, when children's charities aren't scrutinised?

Yep. How many more children's charities are not to be subject to safeguarding??
Leafstamp · 22/12/2021 11:15

Bad luck @DisgustedofManchester

You’ve been telt there mate.

Mmm…

How does not creating any sacred subset of humans exempt from safeguarding work in your world disgusted. Care to explain just how that benefits any child?

And details please not just an emotive hand wave gesture.

Otherwise you are just resorting to shaming those who strive to strengthen children’s boundaries. We all know how that works with sacred subsets now don’t we.

Shedmistress · 22/12/2021 11:39

Now what do we call the sort of people that try and obliterate safeguarding again?

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 22/12/2021 12:04

Thank you, Ms Forstater, for your courage.

Shame on the Scouts for their egregious behaviour.

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2021 12:05

Any children's charity by virtue of being a children's charity is de facto absolved from any possibility of ever doing anything wrong, and no employees of said charity could ever be accused of doing anything wrong, because they work for a charity?

Sounds legit.

heathspeedwell · 22/12/2021 12:11

Hope this quote from Maya's letter will help people understand why sex matters when safeguarding children:

"There have been over 255 convicted cases of child sexual abuse by Scout Leaders, almost all by men. The idea that Scout Leaders can declare themselves women or non-binary and be removed from this risk category is dangerous.

Practically, scout groups are mixed sex and when organising a trip away sex matters in allocating who is sleeping where. Showers and toilets are sex separated. This is important for ordinary dignity and privacy, for safeguarding and for inclusion, including of children from religious minorities.

It is good practice to have leaders of both sexes supervising a group. For many Cub Scouts this is their first time away without their family. If a female Scout gets her first period on camp, or wets herself and needs assistance in the night, it is preferable that a female Scout leader is available to help."

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2021 16:23

Good quotes. Thanks, heath.

When someone shows you who they are....

FlyingOink · 22/12/2021 18:04

She has done more for children and women in two years than all of the trade unions - including education/teaching unions - put togther.

This is genuinely true
