Just a small rant re JKR's latest tweet and the responses it

I'm on Reddit. I mainly use it for Sims stuff, but if you use it you'll know you can't really escape 'popular' topics.

So a few of the news/UK subs were reporting on this, the articles as well as JKR's response (to be clear, I'm talking about the tweet that said "“War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penis-ed Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.”"). And every single post is about how awful she is because it is demonising trans women and tarring them all with the same brush*.

Not a single post, seriously not one, acknowledging that maybe putting a convicted rapist of women in confined spaces with other women is a bad idea.

It's like people nowadays are so completely devoid of the power of critical thinking. They see it from one angle, and one angle only, and absolutely will not relax their thinking. It's clear from most of the comments that they haven't read the article, just the tweet, and that because of the previous 'transphobic' tweets they don't deem it worth actually educating themselves. Why should they give a shit about the women incarcerated with a rapist? It's far more important to validate the identity of a convicted rapist than it is to keep those women safe. And yet they see nothing wrong with this - because it's genuinely not an angle they would ever consider.

It's so disheartening. I actually find it completely upsetting, which is why I restrain myself from responding on platforms where I'm just likely to be called a Karen, a Boomer, a transphobic TERF or whatever.

No need to respond, I just needed a place to put this down as I can't talk to anyone in real life about it really and at least here I am confident I will be able to have an anonymous balanced conversation with intelligent women.

I'm off to bed now though so if anyone does respond please don't think I'm ignoring you!

@WarriorN

because it is demonising trans women and tarring them all with the same brush.

She didn't.

They are.

That's the biggest irony of all this. They've jumped to conclusions that she means trans people. She means male rapists who abuse the system and are allowed to.

This is a really good point that swoops over the head of all these individuals. Say it to them and they never examine what they’ve said or thought, they just double down on the TERF rhetoric, insults and death threats.

I can’t share on here, but I downloaded a tik tok the other day from a female body piercer. She was talking about how a 14 year old girl came in with an infected piercing and how she needed it looking at.

The piercing was in her genitals. And it had been done by the brother of the owner, NOT a registered body piercer or even anyone who worked there (plus it’s illegal anyway on a child). Her point being of course that abusers will go to extraordinary extremes to get their hands on what they want. And yet as women and girls we are supposed to take the burden of everything basically.

Also, I loved coming back to my post to see exactly what I was expecting, reasoned, intelligent discourse.

I came off Reddit for just this reason. It's a shame because I enjoyed some of the subs and even made some friends.

BreatheAndFocus · 17/12/2021 12:27

Obviously if they accepted that rapists could identify as trans for nefarious purposes then they'd be conceding that there's a problem with self-ID. And they can't concede that, so they shout a lot about what an evil terrible transphobe JKR is and pretend that she thinks trans women are all rapists

Exactly - and many others are just to thick to work out what JKR said. They see her name, read two words of her tweet - and then just jump to a ridiculous conclusion. Some of the twits on Twitter were urging each other not to even look at her tweet “because it’s so bad “ yet they happily posted away about how horrible she was even though they hadn’t read her words.

It’s like they’re wallowing in victimhood and too scared to even have a thought of their own. They like the narrative they’re fed - hence their reaction when anyone points out what JKR was actually saying.

No one who is GC would post on those threads because it would be a delete and ban situation.

Advise you to block specific posters of hateful stuff. Reddit is a lot nicer that way!

Greenfields124 · 17/12/2021 12:37

I thought that about her Twitter though, most of the responses were against her.
I found it worrying.

OP I just want to say a few things, we live in a country where Boris Johnson was voted prime minister in a world not much different, where memory has been replaced with google, research with wiki and opinion with social media.

thinking for ones self. joining the dots between cause and effect. understanding that the world isnt black and white, has long since departed replaced by zombies regurgitating what they are told to say and think.

just look at the words they use, all the same no difference no individuality, its the borg the unthinking collective doing as they are told. its pathetic and tragic and they will pay for it, we all will boot on a human face forever sort of thing, not just on the erosion of womens rights but on everything, climate change, materialism etc.

the smartphone generation are all just mouthpieces for others agendas and they are so used to not thinking they can not even fathom what they are doing.

twitter bans feminists/women in general so thats not great surprise its a toxic incel and misogynist playground and women have zero protection.

it reminded me of my ex (he was abusive) you see horrible threats and verbal abuse aimed at women all around and you report them, nothing happens twitter says nah its fine, you on the otherhand get pulled up for all kinds of things such as talking about how women were treated in medieval times etc not allowed to say anything, I even got pulled up for talking about doctor who's tardis and appeals fall on deaf ears. then you see the mens posts advocating DV you and everyone you know has reported so many times is still up for months, Twitter dont care, it starts to make you think you must be mad, whats going on why cant they see what you see?

horrible place it would be interesting to know the ratio of male to female posters compared to other social medias, I know so many women who have been banned from twitter but I dont know any banned men.

Greenfields124 · 17/12/2021 22:38

Oh I only joined recently @VelvetChairGirl, I don't really know alot about Twitter.
I just can't believe there are that many people that think that way.

slightlysnippy · 17/12/2021 23:28

I feel your frustration, it really annoyed me on twitter how many tweets replied to JK repeating the two biggest miss conceptions - how marginalised trans women are and the shocking amount of trans people who have been killed because their trans..

On a more positive note This article came up on my FB feed today posted by a cycling page and 100% of the comments by random Cyclists were supporting womens rights and the unfairness of trans women competing against women and supporting the right of the protesters to protest.

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/usa-cycling-criticized-for-inaction-in-wake-of-anti-trans-protests-at-cyclo-cross-nationals/?utmsource=facebook.com&utmmmedium=social&utmcontent=cyclingnews&utmmcampaign=socialflow&fbclid=IwAR2C8IjbNH1dLGx7fr1Q77vNuJeUjkO82TVvcIBng0h2iCcR7f3mdnQxG8#disquss_thread

slightlysnippy · 17/12/2021 23:34

@VelvetChairGirl your completely right, it's well documented that social media allows people to live in an echo chamber talking to people with the same views and them. It's a scary world we live in.

slightlysnippy · 17/12/2021 23:34

I feel there might be a bit of irony in my last post!

not really this is a forum with a topic, social media is meant to be an open space for freedom of expression and the mixing of views, the fact its all been turned on its head is a massive failure of humanity.
