John Boyne says 'Trans' is one of his books of 2021 in The Observer

Was happy to see that John Boyne listed 'Trans' by Helen Joyce as one of his books of the year in The Observer. I guess it being The Observer and not The Guardian he wasn't censored.

I liked his comment:

"Unlike those of her online counterparts, Joyce’s arguments are well researched, soundly made and avoid the toxicity that mars so much conversation on this topic."

Kathleen Stock was also featured as one of The Guardians faces of the year. The trans author of the book that made the Women's Prize shortlist was also featured, so swings and roundabouts. However, I am sure a few months ago Kathleen Stock would not have had a look in.

The Times also featured it in their Christmas recommendations. Less surprising though, as they have been steadfastly GC throughout this shit show.

Who are Joyce's online counterparts? I think the statement is true of much of the loud gender crowd, but to me, "counterparts" reads like those also commenting from a "GC" angle. Not as keen on that.

He posted on Twitter too.
With the note he was turning off replies from the mob.

"I contributed to @ObserverUK's Books of the Year round-up, recommending the best books of 2021.
I chose @KevPow3's WHITE CITY and @HJoyceGender's TRANS.
Might just turn off the replies on this post before the wolves arrive to rip me limb from limb. 😂"

I thought that too, it’s ambiguous. Still, this is very good.

Despite his continued tone policing, it’s great to see John Boyne has finally been convinced that transactivism is not wholly positive. He was very much onside with them before they took him apart for writing a carefully researched, trans-friendly children’s book. It’s kind of them to be so persuasive.
