Nice interview with Kathleen Stock in the Observer today

What’s interesting is that it’s nowhere to be found on the front page of the website, nor when you click on “UK News”. The only place it’s visible, apart from your direct link, is “Most read in UK news” where it’s at number 5. I think this is deliberate.

What Stock says, about the students usually being open minded and the problem coming from colleagues really resonates with me. I once taught an advanced radical feminist course, and the students engaged well and loved it. One day a student came to my office upset because a professor in gender studies (a different department) had said my class was 'dangerous' and she shouldn't listen to the things I taught! I was really shocked that a fellow academic would dismiss my course without even talking to me about it, and furious that she gave my student the impression the course was somehow evil.

I haven’t read it yet but it’s interesting that it’s with Gaby Hinsliff. She’s been quite a fence-sitter and didn’t she do a weird review of either Trans or Material Girls?

Yes Walk, when I saw who wrote it, it rang a bell she had previously written something that raised eyebrows on here - although can't remember what it was.

The Observer name Stock as one of the 'faces of 2021' which indicates her impact has been undeniable. The others in the list all seem like positive stories, so it's not a controversial or goady list. No wonder the Graun are hiding it away Grin

(Although a question to Torrey Peters gives Wild Women Writing Club a kicking without adequately addressing the issues raised)
