FPFW taking Scottish census authority to judicial review

FPFW have applied for a judicial review, and expect to be granted permission in January and to have an expedited hearing in February.

It stands to reason they ought to both be granted permission and win the review, but if the Scottish government can throw any spanners in any wheels, they surely will.

“Fair Play For Women has instructed top Scottish barrister Roddy Dunlop QC, Dean of Faculty of Advocates, to fight the case in the Scottish Court of Session. Once permission is granted by the Court in early January an expedited hearing is likely to be held in February so an order from the court can be made before the Census opens at the of that month.”

@Toseland

That’s a great statement - wow!

“What is meant by “sex” is a question of law – and not simply a matter on which the Scottish Ministers can simply take a view. If Nicola Sturgeon wanted to change the definition of sex in the Scottish Census she should have convinced her own parliament its the right thing to do. Her Ministers tried but failed to do so”.

“She does not have the power to make up her own definition and force it through regardless. That’s not how democracy works. We are bringing this legal action to defend the rights of women and girls in Scotland”.

Yep. It’s a Protected Characteristic on its own and it’s a factor in other Protected characteristics (religious women, same sex attracted women, elderly women etc). It’s shocking that sex can be so casually and secretly redefined.

Collection of sex in census is just obvious must.

Best thing get sex, and trans ID.

Data for both.

Info used to extrapolate maternity provision, school place numbers etc. Vv important.

You'd have assumed trans orgs would be really keen on wide scale, detailed, easily segmented data to understand loads of stuff about trans population. Like all other orgs for various groups want as much as possible of.

Nope. After years of this it's obvious. Not actually interested in general trans people. Desperate for no reliable data to exist as dangerous, might give 'wrong' findings.

Outrageous and so so obvious.

England Wales sex and gender after court.

Still Scotland said no. In the CENSUS that happens once a decade for deep understanding population. Why would we be interested in anything to do with the half population female?

Ludicrous. How is this even happening. It's nonsensical, dangerous drivel.
