Idea for a FWR thread or threads

We have some amazing resources here, particularly the “Break it down for me” thread. I wondered if there was any traction for a weekly “roundup” thread; essentially a quick one stop shop for any events that had an impact on women’s rights - positive or negative - week to week? I’m thinking court case verdicts or the first day of a case being heard, articles or research published in the media, protests, and any other significant events. It could include links to any threads discussing the events in more detail so as to not get bogged down in the minutiae in any particular discussion, it would just be a way of us keeping track of what was happening when and which way the tide was turning at any particular moment for women’s rights.

Happy to be told it’s a rubbish idea though!

I think that’s a great idea, there are so many long threads that it’s impossible to keep up with everything (especially if you get sucked into reading whole threads!). Thank you.

Go for it!Smile

Yes please.

Someone does a round up on Glinner's site which is always very comprehensive and even, sometimes, not totally fucking depressing.

Somewhere here would be handy, there are a lot of lurkers and I'd like the chance to dissect current situations and being prompted to sign things, donate to things and email things would be really helpful because I have only a lady brain and sometimes I forget.

CrispAndFrosty · 01/12/2021 10:43

If you sign up to the Sex Matters email list, they send exactly that every week. Not sure what the etiquette is on reposting that (or a link to it) here for the benefit of lurkers.

DoubleTweenQueen · 01/12/2021 10:44

Does The Conservative Woman do something like that?

DoubleTweenQueen · 01/12/2021 10:45

It would be very welcome here :)

ArabellaScott · 01/12/2021 11:09

Fantastic idea, OP.

RoyalCorgi · 01/12/2021 11:10

It is a great idea, but JL on Glinner's site does a fantastic weekly round up and sometimes a good news supplement to stop you plunging deep into despair. Just subscribe to Glinner's substack.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/12/2021 11:17

This isn't the same as what Glinner or Sex Matters do, I assume this is a roundup of interesting MN threads, some of which will be about topical events, some not.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/12/2021 11:21

Great idea!

CompleteGinasaur · 01/12/2021 11:39

In a way I don't think it matters what Glinner or even Sex Matters do, fantastic as those sites are. Because not only is the idea of the weekly roundup great for keeping abreast of issues as they happen in real time, but it could build into a very valuable history over time, and the more recorded sources the less easy it is for us to be erased.

Also valuable because here we come from many and varied viewpoints, examining the issues slightly differently than from Glinner's more satiric or even Sex Matters' legal perspectives. Absolutely brilliant idea, and I'm only sorry it isn't possible to do it retroactively - this site is already the richest seam of source material I can think of!

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/12/2021 17:48

Well, the usual suspects will do their damnedest to get it taken down, of course. So we should probably limit discussion on the actual thread.

Yes, that’s pretty much as I envisaged it. Just a list of links to MN threads where we’ve discussed notable events of the week, with a kind of “headline” to describe them. So something like (for argument’s sake, conflating a few things that happened in different weeks):

“Royal Academy pulls Jess de Wahls items for sale [link to MN thread]

First day of Helen Webberley case [link to MN thread]

Lush apologises for making donation to WPUK [link to MN thread]

Royal Academy apologises to Jess de Wahls [link to MN thread]

Girl Guiding leader removed after raising safeguarding concerns [link to MN thread]

Etc etc”

Yes, I really like your idea @OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg

Heresyandwitchcraft used to do something similar in 2018/19.

It's worth being aware of as it links to previous important threads and so acts as an important archive tool:
