Just come across this on Twitter.

A special survey for specially selected people.

Just who do they think they are kidding? Girlguiding does a regular large scale attitude survey open to all, why is this one only for randomly selected random people?

And questions about "your child"

Well they have been getting a hammering on Twitter for at least a week now, and this is going down like a lead balloon.

Eggybrains · 30/11/2021 20:36

So can we all have the link they’ve asked you not to share so we can help them with our views?

Sittinginthesand · 30/11/2021 20:59

I’ve just one - no space for comments 😡🙄

Eggybrains · 30/11/2021 21:02

@sittinginthesand can you share the link please?

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 30/11/2021 21:05

I got one too, I'm a leader, Gender Critical and I think already on their watch list from complaining. Smile

Please can you share surveymonkey link, @callingonavengingangels?

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 30/11/2021 21:15

Just tried and I can't get back in - it just says You have already completed this survey.

It asked how long and where I volunteer, my reasons for starting to volunteer, some questions about how supported I feel, how long to it took to be able to start volunteering, how much I feel I can influence desisions made by Girlguiding, if I feel if has become more like a job, how many hours in the last 4 weeks I have spent volunteering with Girlguiding, and if I see myself doing more, less or the same in the future. Right at the end it asked what gender I consider myself.

Eggybrains · 30/11/2021 21:26

@CallingOnAvengingAngels Isn’t it not letting you back in because of your IP address? If you share the link can others use it?

GuidingSpirit · 30/11/2021 21:47

I had the survey as a leader. Not sure about suspicious timing- it struck me very much as being a "people survey" type of activity. I do one every year for my paid employer also around this time of year. Questions around how valued i feel as a volunteer, how much time i give as a volunteer, am i planning on volunteering less, do i feel valued by parents etc, do i feel i am listened to by girlguiding etc. I didn't get the question screenshot above so presumably the OP was asked to complete it as a parent and isn't a volunteer? There were no free text boxes other than to state ethnicity or gender if you didn't want to select from the list.

I've no connection to Girlguiding, but I've worked for similar organisations and been involved in plenty of emails and surveys. This kind of thing would take months of faffing and back-and-forth to conceive and get off the ground. I'd be absolutely amazed if they had done this in response to last week's events, and I'd also be absolutely amazed if it were not truly random. They would be breaking GDPR if they were to collect data under false pretences, and not-for-profit organisations are terrified about that sort of thing (their data mishaps always derive from incompetence, not cunning - something you might not guess from press coverage). It would be a Slytherin move from a Hufflepuff-sector organisation.

Girlguiding does a regular large scale attitude survey open to all, why is this one only for randomly selected random people?

I thought they meant don't share the survey contents online, which sounded dodgy, but what they actually mean is don't share the link, as it can skew the results if other uninvited people answer it.

Random selection of participants (e.g. putting all the people in alphabetical order and selecting every 10th person) is a legitimate way to run a survey from a statistical perspective, and it's a good way to get a cross section of members without having to survey everyone (which often costs more).

If they want to get a steer on people's current thinking and on whether they're going in the right direction or are risking fucking up royally, a random selection would be a much quicker and cheaper way of doing that than surveying every member.

Also, it's worth remembering that the people who come onto this board to say they've received it are far more likely to be consciously GC than the general population, so several GC people on MN saying they've received it doesn't mean it only went out to GC people.
