TFL forgetting about sex (or conflating it with gender)...

Saw this on the underground today and it really wound me up! So they don't stand together against hate directed at people because of their sex? Why has that been deleted now, or is gender identity more important?

That’s the hate crime categories, not the equalities act. Still shit though having that in your face after the row of be kind posters on the escalators. It gives me the rage that poster.

Sorry, I didn't mean deleted from anything in particular - just deleted from life in general. Not even last place... just not included at all!

When is fucking misogyny/vawg going to be made a hate crime? Because it’s a fucking hate crime.

Angry

I stand opposite that poster all the time and it gives me the rage so much that I start muttering about it angrily behind my face mask 😡

Not enough police, lawyers, or courts in the world to deal with it, but I hear you.

Men murdered en with impunity. Because we are women.

The fact we're women is typically much more important that our race, sexuality, disability, religion or gender identity when it comes to us being killed.

And that's not important to Sadiq Khan

For some reason I can't view the image posted. I've got a blank space where it should be visible. What is the actual wording of the ad?

London stands together against hate directed at someone on our transport network because of race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or gender identity

Ah I've now seen it via the link above to the previous thread.

Thanks, OP. We cross posted.

I am sure it's not intentional. I don't think it is with the vast majority of this sort of thing. I mean I don't think they are making a point. I would guess something like-

  1. Cut and pasted hate categories.
  1. Take gender identity to cover gender and take gender to mean sex.
  1. Ran wording past internal D&I group or similar who seem to generally to be up to their eyes in stonewall etc. A usually small group out of 1000s who. I know a fair few tfl employers at sharp end and no way are they on board (same as most of population).
  1. Ran wording past stonewall or similar.

As an org they do think of women and whether they do enough etc they have done some really useful things.

Things that I know cause big arguments on here so hoping this won't turn into argument about following or tfl /women!

Examples-

  1. Noticed or brought to attention that pregnant women often not getting offered seat. For variety reasons. Changed priority seat sign to include pregnant women explicitly.
  1. Still didn't do the trick so baby on board badges.
That really took off and worked well from what I've seen.
  1. Women and girls getting comments, perves touching/ rubbing, aggression, sexual assault etc etc.
I have seen multiple separate campaigns around saying please report. We take this very seriously. Everyone should be safe. Posters etc. Press stuff with videos etc released saying this is happening. It's appalling. We're doing xyz. Please report.

Off the top of my head.

Oh lord sorry! Just realised sound like I'm in love with tfl!

Anyway. I'm positive it's not pointed.

Why does this keep happening. We all know the answer.

OhamIreally · 30/11/2021 08:03

Every time I see this poster it makes me feel like women don't matter.
I'm sure as pp said that misogyny can't be made a hate crime (even though it is) because the resources required to police it would be vast. The edifice of patriarchy and the misogyny within it has to be maintained for the good of society (men) it seems.

Next time I see it however I will imagine that the woman next to me on the platform is another angry mumsnetter with whom I stand in solidarity.

A bit like TFLs attitude to sex based hate really “No, sorry, can’t see that at all, maybe it’s because you’re only a woman. Do you have another identity we could use instead?”

CheeseMmmm · 30/11/2021 23:07

You mean they don't care about harrassment, sex crimes, violence against women and girls at all?

That's a big claim why do you think that? (I've put some of the things they've done upthread).

You know they have masses of female employees on the ground?

CheeseMmmm · 30/11/2021 23:10

This is recent www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-59056619.

The transport police IME are rubbish. Hope better now. That's police issue and we all know what they're usually like with VAWG.
