Initially irritated by a speaker who just had to include a tw in a list of women in power. However the programme improved considerably when talking about the violence girls in schools are suffering. Several girls came on to talk about their experiences including a friend of Samina, age 12 . I was in a state of complete rage when it was over at what they are going through. At a local level, the schools seem to be aware but apparently unable to protect them. Perhaps at a local level women and feminists could offer to escort girls home from school where needed... has this been tried anywhere?

I tend not to listen when it is Anita Rani, after her "Be Kind" exhortation a few weeks back, but I caught the last 15? minutes and the piece on the school girls, my heart really went out to them, when I was 12-13 I was so carefree and childish, and these girls have to deal with all this.

I am not sure if girls could countenance being escorted, one of my pleasures at 13 was that I was finally allowed to walk alone to school. But some ideas on how we can support these girls would be great.

Yes I agree this is not what girls of that ge would normally want, but it seems there is a state of emergency and maybe some of them could ask for support if they need it. A new role for the PTA perhaps? Or the local lesbian activists?
