Police forces and social media on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

It is very noticeable the lack of social media attention give to this on twitter etc by Police forces in England, especially compared to the Trans Day of Remembrance.

North Yorkshire Police for example tweet and hash tag white ribbon but do not mention International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women or even the words women or girls.

The Hampshire PCC in complete contrast does mention women - though of course the PCC is not the same as the force itself

The good news is that the Hampshire force does have several tweets or RTs from serving officers and the chief constable mentioning women and pledging to protect.

Women all over the country deserve protection. There should not be a post code lottery on this. North Yorkshire and others should be in line with Hampshire.

What is happening with your police force?

Local police - naff all

Our esteemed mayor - don’t be daft, but at least he isn’t spouting his usual ‘all’ women sentiment like usual.

KittenKong · 25/11/2021 14:33

Just been looking through our company social media accounts - crickets from the companies who generally plant a flag on everything. Weasels.

North Yorkshire are having by-election today for a new PCC. The last one didn't do well in this area. Hoping the next one is better. Just off to vote!

Artichokeleaves · 25/11/2021 15:13

Yeah but there's no large corporate that they've signed up to who have required them to set up an internal committee for, and are demanding to see the evidence of tweets and SM action and commitment to the Cause as part of not being failed in annual appraisal and failing to gain sufficient points on the all important index, nor the chance of winning an award.

Without Stonewall behind the scenes vigorously creating the set up and incentives (and penalties for not doing it), there would not be the fuss that is seen on other days. It's commitment to the funding spent on the benefits to the company, not to the cause itself. It is all that cynical.

Need to ask Essex Police if they've held a ceremony and raised a flagHmm

Quite. Why is it that I have a pessimistic sense that I know the likely response to this?

Surprisingly Police Scotland know what a woman is.

Lincolnshire police have tweeted a few times about it today mobile.twitter.com/LincsPolice/status/1463779780172595204 and are retweeting other police officers as well.
Marc Jones was one of the original PCC’s that spoke out in support of Lisa though and although I don’t agree with his politics, he seems firmly grounded in reality.

Divebar2021 · 25/11/2021 16:41

Does it necessarily follow that if they don’t tweet about it they’re not doing anything ?

KittenKong · 25/11/2021 16:46

Well the do bang on about things that don’t happen (and fly the flags) so I’d hope if they were doing something they’d have something to say about it.

Starting by getting all their own houses in order, perhaps.

The MPS have 16 Days of Action which was publicised on Twitter and elsewhere early this morning

KittenKong · 25/11/2021 17:04

Yup. Scary stuff in the news even just in the past few days.
