Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Woman's Hour today (Wednesday) asking what turned you onto feminism and women's rights

Just heard Emma Barnett ask this question, ahead of another programme strongly focused on women's issues (maternity policy, Sheila Rowbotham on the women's movement in the 70s, domestic violence in the Sikh community...)

Thought it might be a good opportunity to spread the word about MN and the fabulous women of FWR!

Sheila Rowbotham is a 70s and 80s legend!

Good question! Can you text/email?

WinterTrees · 24/11/2021 12:07

I sent a text but a bit late in the programme. Just checked on twitter and someone has given Mumsnet a shoutout!

I wish I could have put it on twitter, but work account/woke industry means it wouldn't be a wise move. It would be great to see MN given the credit it's clearly due (from that AIBU thread) for opening the eyes of so many women to feminism in the 21st century.

I’ve always believed that women should have the same rights as men, so I’ve always been a feminist. However, I saw myself more as an egalitarian.

Mumsnet has helped me appreciate the real need for feminism (i.e. a movement that centres women and the issues that affect them).

Very well put. I think this is the case for many women who grew up being told we had equality, but then began to discover the realities once they were no longer buffered by youth and child-freeness.
