The Daily Telegraph did a good article on ROGD today, quoting Dr David Bell from the Genspect conference. These type of articles are coming out every week these days
Dr Bell "told a conference organised by Genspect... that those “unwilling or unable to conform to gender stereotypes” are “misunderstood” as beingtransgender."

Is there some way I can read this without subscribing? Looks interesting.

I believe the presentations/discussions have been filmed and will be on YouTube. I think one might already be - haven't had the time to check.

I think you can view it from here:

(it’s on my to-do list)

@OldCrone thanks!

Thanks for posting this - will have a look. I've read the piece in the London Review by Bernadette Wren of GIDS, so this will be interesting to compare.

I think David Bell is an important figure in all this.

Cleopatracat · 23/11/2021 02:46

Yes i reckon David Bell is brilliant. This gives a summary of who said what genspect.org/first-ever-conference-on-rogd-packs-clinical-and-emotional-punch/

Mail online also has a report on this under the headline NHS's only gender service for children believes all girls who don't like 'pink ribbons and dollies' must be transgender, whistleblower claims

This is where we end up if we go down the route where it’s accepted that some girls are really boys. Instead of thinking “here we have a mismatch between belief and reality, how can we resolve that?” to “some girls are boys, where is the line between girls who are girls and girls who are boys”.

Quite apart from anything else, that’s a false line, based on a false premise, so you’re already in deep trouble.

I’m interested to see that he now advocates returning the whole thing to mental health. I think that is definitely where this needs to go.

DisappearingGirl · 23/11/2021 09:00

Dr Bell, you are fantastic.

Even this quote from the GIDS spokesperson in the Times article is totally confusing, as it implies (to me anyway) that gender non-conforming people are all trans ...

"We are also well aware of the intense pressure young people may feel under when they express their non-conforming gender or sexual identity in this society."

DdraigGoch · 23/11/2021 10:39

He also said that a quarter of clinicians there were concerned about this, some even struggling to sleep at night. Whenever a clinician believed that a child was not trans but gay, they were simply taken off the case.
