What do people reckon about this? Is it still worthy of support even though it says 'gender' rather than 'sex'? Has it been Stonewalled?
It's a micro-finance site where your donation gets repaid and you can re-lend it out to individual entrepreneurs. I have been quite clear about the sex of the people I have supported so far, based on their photos. I have supported men and women but there are more women asking for funds.

Quote from Website 'About Us':
'With over 75 years of experience creating lasting change, we recognise that women and girls suffer disproportionately from poverty – but that equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and communities escape poverty. That’s why women are at the heart of our community-based efforts to improve basic education, increase access to quality health care and expand economic opportunity for all.

CARE is non-religious and non-political, allowing us to deliver humanitarian and development assistance to anyone in need regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, age, religion, political view or sexual orientation.

You can find out more about how we are helping to transform lives at the CARE International UK website'

I think it would be worth pointing out the protected characteristic is 'sex' not 'gender'.
I didn't used to object to 'gender' being used in place of 'sex'; but now they aren't interchangeable; one is used to replace the other, and women can be left at a disadvantage as a result.

I think that in the world of NGOs and international development, gender just means sex. I don’t think they are focusing on transgender issues in Sub-Saharan Africa

I've been lending with Lend With Care for over 10 years. I think its a fantastic idea and I will be gutted if they've been Stonewalled. In their defence here, I don't think they are listing the Equality Act protected characteristics. I think they have used "gender" because they're a bit squeamish about the word "sex" (I know, I know). I will continue to support them because I think their work is fantastic until I hear them spouting real nonsense.

worthyofsupport · 20/11/2021 13:39

Yes I think the wording is surprisingly mild and want to continue my support.

I like the sound of this charity. Most of the charities I donate to support both sexes, and I would like to do more for wnomen. It would be better if they dropped the gender nonsense. But if you can see photos of recipients, and eg choose a widow with children, you could be pretty sure your money was going to a woman who needs it.

I would love a none-stonewalled UK charity to support and preferably one which does not keep wasting my Xmas Donation on writing to me through out the year asking for more money.

non-stonewalled

I’ll be ruddy gutted to discover LendWithCare have been Stonewalled, although it appears not at present. I think they’re fantastic and always try to lend to women with children to support if I can. I look forward to getting my loan-repayments at the end of each month so I can reinvest. You can lend as little as £15 if you don’t have much to spare

I've been lending with this Charity for a few years and give gifts to friends at Christmas. Really worthwhile and you choose the recipients of your loan individually!

teawamutu · 20/11/2021 18:22

I support LWC - only ever women, preferably with children or who employ other women.

LWC can be as wishy washy as they like with language, I guess - my money's only ever going to the MK1 cunty kind of woman.

worthyofsupport · 20/11/2021 21:32

Just topped up my lending pot for Xmas and allocated to 2 women and 1 man.

I lend (over and over again) with care. I look at the names and photos and prioritise women.

Cheermonger · 20/11/2021 22:48

I lend to women with kids. Think it’s a fabulous idea and that more people should do it. That said, no harm in pointing out that sex and gender aren’t interchangeable.
